    Spiritual Songs

    September 17, 2016 by RWDCollinson

    Ephesians 5:19 instructs Christians to address one another 'in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making melody to the Lord with your heart'.

    It's not entirely clear what the distinction between 'hymns' and 'spiritual songs' is. Nevertheless, this blog post contains Christian-themed songs which have been covered many times but which were written in the era of widely-published recorded music, so that they could not reasonably be said to be 'traditional'. Traditional hymns I've worked on are here.

    The format is the same as my post on country standards, so the aim is:

    • to list every LyricWikia version of the song as a cover on the page of the original lyricis;
    • to link every version back to the article for the original recording;
    • where the song …

    Country Standards

    September 12, 2016 by RWDCollinson

    So, in the same vein as my posts on traditional hymns and spiritual songs, this is a standing record of country that I've worked on.

    As before, my goals are:

    • to list every LyricWikia version of the song as a cover on the page of the original lyricis;
    • to link every version back to the article for the original recording;
    • where the song is on Wikipedia, to ensure that there is a Wikipedia-embedded link in every version of the song;
    • to ensure that the original songwriter is credited in the CreditBox for every version of the song.

    Traditional Hymns

    October 26, 2015 by RWDCollinson

    I'm going to keep this blog post as a standing record of the traditional hymns that I've sorted. My goals are:

    • to list every LyricWikia version of this song as a cover on the page of the original lyricis;
    • to link every version back to the article for the original ('traditional') lyrics;
    • where the song is on Wikipedia, to ensure that there is a Wikipedia-embedded link in every version of the song;
    • to ensure that the original lyricist is credited in the CreditBox for every version of the song.

    Second Blog Post

    October 23, 2015 by RWDCollinson

    I seemed to have branched out to musicals, especially those by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and to the pleas on the requests page.

    The requests page is not easy! As one might expect, a lot of the lyrics are hard to make out, and the meaning of the songs is not always transparent. I was really struggling with Attention Cherie by April March, but happily a YouTube commentator had transcribed what turned out to be the correct lyrics. Dirt Bike by The Reliable Narrators also posed some challenges, not least of which being 'What is the appropriate way of rendering a vocalised motorbike noise?'

    I'm currently working on the album request for The Island Moved In The Storm (2008) by Matt Bauer. The lyrics look as though they'd repay closer reflection, but si…

    Introduction

    October 19, 2015 by RWDCollinson

    Hello! Here, I'll be keeping a log of all the artists whose songs I'm uploading.

    Currently, I'm trying to:

    - Upload the lyrics of all songs by the well-known modern hymnwriter Stuart Townend (e.o.l dispute notwithstanding);

    - Finish the uploading of the lyrics to the songs of Don Francisco; audio files for most of his songs are available free on his website, but the lyrics aren't transcribed anywhere on the internet;

    - Add the Wikipedia links to all versions of well-known Christian hymns (I did Amazing Grace the other day, and it took a very long time...)
