I haven't been here for a long time. I don't know for how long I will be here, but I hope even small contributions are appreciated.
The reason I am here is that since New Year's Eve I am on an A-ha trip. On German TV there was a one hour excerpt of their MTV Unplugged shows. I loved it and ended up buying the album - and later many songs from their studio albums.
For me this Unplugged album is a jewel. Whereas a-ha use synthesizers quite a lot, I love all things acoustic. Not that I don't appreciate some creative use of keyboards or some of the stuff you can do with synths. Anyway, what a-ha did with their songs on this album is brillant. Some versions are slower than the originals, but above all the acoustic versions show the very substance of the songs. And substance they have.
Moreover, with these acoustic arrangements you can wonderfully enjoy Morten Harket's voice. And at 57 in June 2017, when the shows were recorded, his voice is still amazing. From Take On Me on I have admired his incredible voice and singing, some of the best I've ever heard.
It's wonderful that a-ha came back in 2015 after disbanding in 2010 - if only because they eventually made an unplugged album.
