May 24, 2018: Flamingo by Kero Kero Bonito

It's a bop and the lyrics are just sweet. They show that it's ok to be yourself, not just a pink flamingo. "You don't need to change, it's boring being the same."

May 23, 2018: Church Bells At Sago by T. Paige

To honor the miners of WV and Appalachia, and working class people everywhere, I nominate this song. 12 miners died here. Our politicians told us this must never happen again. But only a few years later, 29 miners gone ... an explosion at Upper Big Branch, which I also write about, Don't Turn Out the Lights, or When You Go, also for the same reason.

May 14, 2018: I Blew Up The Clinic Real Good by Steve Taylor

This song is a prime example of how misunderstood Steve Taylor was. Telling the story of an ice cream man blowing up the local abortion clinic to preserve his career, it was an attempt to point out how ridiculous the idea of anti-abortion violence was. Unfortunately, it caused even more problems as a lot of people didn't get the satire (or were offended by it), causing some Christian bookstores to ban the album.

May 13, 2018: Soul Bossa Nova by Quincy Jones

Used to great comedic effect in the Austin Powers films, I think it stands up well on its own. Swinging just as much as the era from which Austin comes, it's one of Q's quintessential jazz tunes.
