genreEdit

Excuse me for my bad english in the genre can you add item for dancers like tango, salsa, waltz . . . ? For each song not for a artist ? Thanks for your response Neyrial

NamingEdit

Most of the genre categories start with Genre such as "Genre/Alternative" and "Genre/Blues". But there are a few categories that don't have Genre in the category name such as "Metal" (duplication of "Genre/Metal"), "Oldies" and "Pop" (duplication of "Genre/Pop"). Should all the genre categories have "Genre/" at the start of the category name? Should the pages in category "Pop" be moved to category "Genre/Pop"? --EarthFurst 01:06, 20 September 2006 (PDT)

All the genres should start with "Genre/". I'll tweak them if I see some which don't.
Thanks for finding this prob,

Parameter Edit

How should the Category:Genre be handled on Genre pages? I have been adding the first letter of the genre as a parameter for some genres, but now I find that some other genres have the whole name of the genre as a parameter. This makes the sorting on this page a bit weird, so I wonder what the policy should be? Should we use [[Category:Genre|M]] or [[Category:Genre|Metal]] for Genre/Metal? Lime 04:21, 6 April 2007 (EDT)

P.S. Okay, that turned out pretty weird, I guess I'm not entirely awake yet. Hope you understand the question anyway. Lime 04:26, 6 April 2007 (EDT)

That's the sort-order which isn't required. If you're going to put it in there at all, please put the whole name so that the page can sort correctly. That's mainly used for something like "The Category" where you would pass in "Category" to make it be sorted with the C's instead of the T's.
If you see sorting by the single letter please switch it to the full word.
Thanks,

Artist instead of artist:album Edit

Hey there. I am completely new to this site, but yet added quite an amount of new lyrics etc. I have a question concerning the list within each genre. As far I can say, in every genre there is listed up each album of each artist starting with "A", "B", "C",... etc. It would be looking nicer just to have a link to the artist wiki page in which you then can choose the album or song you are interested in. Hope you can understand my question. Greetings.

--ConDrei 13:57, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi ConDrei. Yes if I understand correctly you are saying you would prefer to list just the artists within each genre, not all the albums. Firstly, this is done automatically so it isn't a matter of choice. All pages need to be categorised and the genre pages show each individual page that has been categorised as such. If an artist works primarily in one genre you are likely to find an entry to the artist page under that genre. I'm sorry, I know it's not a very good explanation but I didn't want your question to go unanswered.  Яєdxx Actions Words 00:42, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

So what you say is, to achieve this kind of list I must change the entry of the artist and decline as the genre AND change each album not to be mentioned as the specific genre? --ConDrei 10:17, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

As I understand, this kind of list can't be achieved right now. The entry of the genre is needed in order to categorise the albums/artists and you shouldn't change it. Titaki 10:25, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Adding new genre Edit

I couldn't find this anywhere. How does one add a genre (category) that isn't here? Musdan77 23:08, August 1, 2010 (UTC)
