[edit] Kelly Groucutt:Sea Of Dreams

Can you ask your Dad to correct the lyrics on the above page, as I couldn't understand some of them. One thing I am sure of though is they are nothing like this...lol  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 14:14, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

My dad actually scanned all the lyrics and sent them to me, so I'll be going through all of them before Mon. when I update the AotW. I can take a look at "Sea of Dreams" next, though. --WillMak050389 22:55, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. Nice tune too.  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 23:04, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
All done! I will have to say, despite the large amount of corrections, you did a great job without having the lyrics to cheat off of. To be honest, his vocals don't have the most clarity. Not a bad song, a little mellow for my taste, by still pretty good. --WillMak050389 05:13, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Took me a little time, but I tracked it down: The Idle Race:Sea Of Dreams. People often get IR confused with ELO. Some time ago, I moved like 100 pages or so because people can't tell ELO from The Move or The Idle Race (or The Nightriders or Jeff Lynne or ...). --WillMak050389 05:17, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
You done a good job with that page Will. Oh and btw my 12 year old daughter knew about "sick" so please accept my apologies for that. I guess I must be getting old if I'm no longer up on the lingo on the street..(lol)  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 04:04, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Headers & album infobox

Damn, archived already… Looks like the trick to avoid headers running into/under tables and infoboxes is to wrap a div around them (the infoboxes, not the headers) with some padding and a white background; see the top of this very page :-) I'll include it in {{Album}} with the next update. — 6x9 (Talk) 22:31, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Pink Floyd userbox category

Hi Will, pardon my ignorance but why is the Pink Floyd user group box the only one categorized under Template:Userbox? All the other userboxes are under Template:Userboxes. I wondered if there was a logic I was missing. --    RainbowDragon    talk    contribs   00:26, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Nope, probably just a misstep of mine. I'll go fix it. Thanks for pointing that out! --WillMak050389 00:29, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
No problem. I'm glad I pointed it out now. Next question: will this effect the way the userbox is coded on our pages (with the new location)? --    RainbowDragon    talk    contribs   00:46, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Redirects work with templates (check my page to make sure the userbox is still there). Unfortunately, though, when you edit my page and it lists the templates I use at the bottom, this will use whatever name I call the template from (In my case, I haven't "fixed" it yet, so it will display "Template:Userbox/User Pink Floyd"). Other than that, everything should function the same. --WillMak050389 00:51, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Alright then. Thank you, sir Image:Smile001.gif-    RainbowDragon    talk    contribs   00:54, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Always glad to help! --WillMak050389 01:03, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Aerosmith

Hey Will, that IP user just edited the Aerosmith page again. Perhaps you should protect it for a while? --    RainbowDragon    talk    contribs   17:24, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Wow, I just did that when I got your message. Great minds think alike (Or maybe in my case, it was just coincidence haha). --WillMak050389 17:27, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Update: that user also made an incorrect to AC/DC:Rock N Roll Train (I have the CD and the previous version is correct. --    RainbowDragon    talk    contribs   17:31, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Feel free to revert that one yourself if you have the CD and know the official lyrics. I have a feeling possibly all of that user's edits are not legit, but don't know that I can prove any others. Also, if you feel compelled, leave hi/her a note on their talk page about it. --WillMak050389 17:34, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
I banned him. This same user has been doing idiotic edits for a very long time. He used to mark songs with horribly incorrect featured artists (almost everything featured Justin Timberlake & Timbaaland, it seemed) and muck up lyrics. Now he's slowly moved to mucking with Members lists, since his favorite targets are all being watched and get instantly reverted. I have begged him to get an account so that at least he could be talked to and so he wouldn't get insta-blocked, but every time I leave a message on an IP address, he just moves to a different one. He may be using school or library computers, I don't know. He even would go to the Wikipedia pages of the artists/albums that he's edited incorrectly here to have those pages "match". His edits get reverted there, too. Persistent, though. I use a Whois site to check where the IPs are coming from. If it's from Houston or Richardson, Texas, it's our guy. Example    Kiefer    talk    contribs    admin   19:00, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
So my note didn't work then? Well at least it allowed for an instant ban. Is it our Mr. KoRn Kiefer?  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 22:59, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
Yup.    Kiefer    talk    contribs    admin   04:13, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Aahh..well now it all makes sense. No wonder he was so persistent with Areosmith.  ♫Яєdxx Actions Words 05:46, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey Will, we have a new registered user ThePinkFloydian76 You might want to welcome him/her and invite them into the PF group. --    RainbowDragon    talk    contribs   22:00, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Vandal Bot

If you uncheck "Leave a redirect behind", then you don't have to delete the redirects. You appear to be working from the bottom up, I'm working from the top down. We'll meet in the middle.  :-]    Kiefer    talk    contribs    admin   21:35, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Oh, sweet. That'll be good. I'll start at the bottom. Ugh, what a mess... --WillMak050389 21:36, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

FYI: I have e-mail Sean about these latest attacks. Obviously, until something is done, we will have to monitor the Recent Changes often and slap down any new accounts.    Kiefer    talk    contribs    admin   22:43, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

I was under the impression that he got emails when we edited his Spam Reports page, but thanks for emailing him directly, just in case I'm wrong. I really hope this stops soon, I'm going crazy. And I have to leave soon. --WillMak050389 22:45, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
I was in the chatroom with Sean as the attacks were happening so he found out about it right away. He's off work and headed home so he should be around before long I'd guess. He was not pleased. --    RainbowDragon    talk    contribs   22:56, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Awesome RD! (I mean, all things considered) Thanks for the heads up! --WillMak050389 22:57, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Confession

Hi, Will, must confess my (one more) guilt, unintentionally making some changes in Pink Floyd page, which you may not like. At least I not like them, 'cause I'm not proponent of such pseudoedits, changing only initial caps in songFooter album names (Point Me at the Sky -> Point Me At The Sky). So if you decide that lowercased "in", "of" etc. should be restored - just tell me, and I try to make it manually (oh...), 'cause lwt is still unable to do that :). Sorry, but truth to tell I even have no idea how it could be trained not to make such unnecessary changes in the future... Maybe you have some bright idea for that?

But that's not all my (lwt) guilts. If single shouldn't be traeted as album, then some lwt editions, overwriting album parameter in SF by the name of single also should be undone.

So, now I'm waiting for your decission to take punishment lying down...--Senvaikis (talk) 08:46, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

...Tried to make some amendments without waiting for your verdict, but now I see that it's better to wait - some cases aren't quite evident for me...--Senvaikis (talk) 10:15, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
Oh, there is no harm done. As for the caps issue, I feel it should be kept as close to the original language's style as possible (in English, we uncapitalize words in titles if they are short prepositions ("to" "at" "from" "with" etc. but not "Throughout" (the cutoff is usually like 5 letters)) or articles ("the" "a" "an") as long as the word is not the first or last word). Very confusing, right? As for lwt and how to modify it, is there a way to compare the already specified value ("Point Me at the Sky") with the pagename ("Point Me At The Sky"). But compare them in ALL CAPS so that if they are equal in all caps, do not replace the parameter?
As for the singles vs. albums thing: I would tend to want the studio album as the primary source of the song (use that first in {{Song}} and {{SongFooter}}), but singles and all other releases should be specified in either {{Song}} or {{AddAlb}}.
I hope this hasn't been too confusing for you. I guess a more safe way to do this is to only modify songs that aren't Gold. That will prevent any "messing up" of the pages I've looked at already. If you do it to Green songs, then I will eventually look over them again and fix anything if it isn't right. I definitely want to thank you for putting in the effort to improve these pages. Hope this helps. --WillMak050389 16:26, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
PS: Something else I noticed, and this is a special case, but I have been avoiding adding Pink Floyd:A Tree Full Of Secrets (2000) to song pages, because it is a bootleg.
PS²: I've been going through the edits and reverting those that were unnecessary. I have also noticed that some of them take two albums and put them into {{AddAlb}}, but you can fit all three in {{Song}}. Can this be modified?
Thanks for your soothing reply :). If you've noticed I tried to revert or correct most of lwt missedits, which do not correspond to your rules. Now some notes about your notes:
  • capc/nocaps:truth to tell I always thought that ini_caps are more -German, not -English specific :) Ok - all is clear while we are speaking about LW NP - all iniCaps are "the must" just for language-independent uniformity. But why some words must (not may) be uncapitalized in SF? And where are those cap/uncap-italization rules for lwt to 'learn'? Seems to me that lwt just needs to know full list of 'uncapitalizable' words and use it as exeption list applying capitalization in SF. Anyway, if all meaningfull words must start from caps, then we just can't use UPPERCASED comparision to be sure that album "poinT me aT the sky" will be corrected to "Point Me at the Sky". Not simple indeed (especially for bots) ;)
  • singles/albums: Agree, I tend to use albums too. So, if song appeared on album A and on single B, naturally A should be used in song header and footer, and B may be added only as additional info in SH and AddAlb. But imo single may and must be used in both SH & SF, if all later song appearances are on a couple of compilations/bootlegs etc.
  • bootlegs: tend to agree, with some doubts though. If bootlegs may be mentioned in artist pages and are even allowed to have their own pages, why then should we hoodwink ourselves imitating their absence? From the LWT (bot) point of view this doubt is even stronger: while collecting a list of albums to be listed in SH,SF and AddAlb, lwt uses backlinks (or WLH). All albums, having this song, are equal from the such point of view (untill we have.. you know). Of course, LWT could check the type of album, but it'd need one more needless request to lw, opening album page etc. - e.g. it's too costly for a bot (and LW traffic too).
  • 2 vs 3 albs in {{Song}} Of course it can be easily modified, though in most cases such tripple construction results in too long string to fit in one line and looks ugly. But we can find some compromise solution - if lwt finds such tripple-formatted {{Song}}, it leaves all 'as found'. Otherwice it uses it's own 'rule' (if count of albums >= 3 - start using AddAlb).
I'd like these notes to be treated more like questions, not statements :) thanks, --Senvaikis (talk) 19:44, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
P.S. Illustration for 'bootlegs' note, provided by one of your last reverts. So - is it better to have no info about any song release, compared to bootleg link? Why bootleg may be mentioned on artist page, but can't be mentioned on song page? --Senvaikis (talk) 20:09, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
  • CaPs - I'm not sure how intricate the functionality that lwt is written in, but instead of ALL CAPS, is there an Initial Caps function? Comparing both strings with initial caps of each shouldn't break style convention and it will prevent "pseudo-edits". As for why, it's a general English style rule to have them displayed this way, just like the German rules. I could create a list of commonly uncapitalized words, but sometimes it is subjective: prepositions vs. noun phrases. For example: "He Is on the Run" where "on" is uncapitalized, but "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" where "On" is capitalized. Also, you would need to make sure the word is not the first or last word.
  • Singles - I agree with everything you said. "Point Me at the Sky" should not have "The Best of The Pink Floyd" or "The Early Singles" in songfooter. I think the parameter is somewhat incorrectly named, it should be |release = instead of |album = , but we can't change it now. It is the same problem with the {{Album}} template being used for singles and EPs.
  • Bootlegs - This is a touchy subject. I'm one of the only people on here who thinks some bootlegs should be allowed, but according to the rules, as I understand them right now, bootlegs shouldn't even exist. My personal take on it is that {{Song}} and {{AddAlb}} should be used for official albums. If something was released on a bootleg, I think a "Notes" section is more appropriate. We really need to have a final decision and definitive solution discussion sometime...
  • 2 vs. 3 - The ugliness of a string running to a second line is subjective, and in most cases also depends on your screen resolution too. I've used some computers where any more than one can run to multiple lines, but my personal computer can usually handle 2-3 before splitting to a second line. If the {{Song}} template was built to hold three, might as well use them. --WillMak050389 20:54, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
Senv this page did my brain totally in when I first tried reading it, but you may find some of the information helpful with regards to capitalisation of English words in song titles. The reason we prefer to uncapitalise the words like "the", "on" "a" etc., in songfooter is partly because sites like Musicbrainz will not recognize the song if it isn't capitalised in accordance with these rules. It's not really a huge deal though, because it just means that instead of searching specifically, you have to widen the search. But it is best if it can be uncapitalised.  Яєdxx Actions Words 13:30, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Upload page

I finally found the system message for the upload page (should have looked at mediawiki.org sooner, silly me) and added some basic instructions. Feel free to change the wording if you like (no job queue killing involved). Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a command to automatically send text to the summary field… that would have been neat. — 6×9 (Talk) 15:12, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Would it be a good idea to also add:
{{ArtistPhoto
|artist = <<artist name>>
|site = <<site from which the image was taken>>
|url = <<URL to the page showing the image>>
|dirurl = <<direct URL to the image>>
|info = <<additional info>>
}}
... Just a thought.  Яєdxx Actions Words 15:22, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
There's a link to the help page already. — 6×9 (Talk) 15:57, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
I'm not convinced contributors follow the link to the help page. Certainly some people have been informed but continue to upload without the template and therefore the fair use statement. 'For album cover art please add {{Albumcover}} or for artist images add {{ArtistPhoto}}' might make it a little more obvious. Even better, make it impossible to upload without adding a template.  Ñôīέ2çяȳTalk 17:17, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
For a moment I thought you were referring to Kiefer ;-) The reason why I added an example albumcover template is because most uploaded files are albumcovers. If we add an example for artistphoto as well, most users will see lots of code on a page and either leave quietly or ignore all of it and leave the summary blank; with only albumcover there's a chance they might actually see what it all means.
Your last idea might be (at least half-way) possible – there's a setting in user preferences for a prompt if edit summary is left empty; maybe the same can be set site-wide for all users for upload page only. I'll look into it. — 6×9 (Talk) 17:54, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Sorry for the late reply (though we've got enough users to fill my place ^^^). It is unfortunate that we can't fill the summary box, but I think what we have is quite dandy. Though, I think at the very least we could add a link to the {{ArtistPhoto}} template. Also, a message when the summary isn't filled would also help. --WillMak050389 14:47, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Just another thought, would it be possible to receive the message 'the file you are uploading is too large, please resize and try again' or words to that effect if indeed the file is waaaay too large? Ñôīέ2çяȳTalk 00:43, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
The upper limit for file size can be adjusted by Sean, you could mention it to him. Currently it's 20MB which seems rather excessive… probably been on default setting since he started the site. — 6×9 (Talk) 01:16, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] SOTD nomination

Hi, I see you sort out most nominations for AOTW and SOTD, and I have a request. I note that there is a queue for nominations, and I have just submitted one for The Firm:Star Trekkin', it is in the preferred date list but it is out next week. I'm just wondering if it can be SOTD on that day, but it seems so far down you may ignore nominations until the current list is done and dusted. OK, has any of that made any sense? :s Dvp7 15:38, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

I moved it to the queue. Should show up on the 8th now. Thanks for the heads up! --WillMak050389 01:21, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Sync

Hi, Will

Thought it may be interesting for you to take a look at these two lwt screenshots: Gold & Bronze, indicating that SongInfo needs synchronization on some PF pages. --Senvaikis (talk) 07:15, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! I will go ahead and fix the Gold ones, and I am in the process of getting all of the Bronze (and Green) up to Gold status, so they will be synced in the very near future. Also, I was wondering if you could, when I'm done getting everything to Gold, use LWT to add album links for Shine On (1992) and Oh, by the Way (2007). Everything on Shine On is Gold at this point. Oh, by the Way is going to be a few more days. --WillMak050389 13:29, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
All of the Gold tracks should now be synced with the exception of "Speak To Me / Breathe". Due to its nature, I had to add the wikipedia links after the {{SongFooter}} instead of inside of it. Thanks Again for informing me of these. --WillMak050389 13:56, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Finding obscure lyrics with the help of the community

hi, I'm desperately looking for lyrics of the band Estampie. Is there any way to reach out to the community and ask if anybody might have some? I'm sure there are quite a few lyric enthusiasts amongst us who can find what google can't ;) --Chymæra 13:05, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

See LyricWiki:Requests, but since I don't know how frequently that page is visited, I'd suggest you leave a note on that page but also ask in the Community Portal.  Яєdxx Actions Words 13:11, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Michael Jackson

Very good write up Will. You do rather excel in these things don't you? Whatever anyone thought of him, or the scandal that surrounded him, no one can deny his talent and showmanship. So well done and thanks for the time and effort you took doing this.  Яєdxx Actions Words 01:27, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Wow, you guys give me more credit than I'm due. I think Michael Jackson, as a person, was bad overall (and I don't mean this kind of bad), but I try to focus on teh good things he did. Like you said: "no one can deny his talent and showmanship" and this is what I try to look at when I think of him. Being a music site, I felt we needed to acknowledge him after his death and the Thriller nomination writes itself (I mean, best-selling album worldwide of all time?) Thank you, though, for the encouragement. Sometimes, AotW can get mundane and can feel worthless (how many people really notice it and read the nomination reason?) and this really helps keep me going. --WillMak050389 02:55, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] {{Film}}

Will, should this be showing an f letter parameter on the template page..?  Яєdxx Actions Words 11:40, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

I originally created it without one because we had very few pages for films, but hopefully eventually this will grow large (we only have 23 at the moment). Maybe we should add one, before it will become a pain to edit each one? --WillMak050389 11:56, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Since fLetters can be added by bot (or cyborg) that shouldn't be a problem. Sean also once mentioned the possibility of creating an fletter parser function that would make this parameter obsolete anyway… Maybe I should pester him about this again. In the meantime I'm for a wait-and-see approach. — 6×9 (Talk) 12:48, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] {{Album}} & floating items

Looks like the "float" parameter to allow floating stuff below the album infobox without pushing the tracklist down might be a good idea after all… Not just so you can add two AotW badges to Dark Side, but also for alternative cover art and other stuff. All it would take is adding {{{float|}}} at the correct place in the template – you'd hardly notice it's there! (I've already tested it.) — 6×9 (Talk) 05:14, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

The only problem I see is that the [edit] link shows up below the horizontal bar. --WillMak050389 05:58, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Is the headline at about the same height as the gap between infobox and thumbnail on your screen? I got weird behaviour there too, though on my browser the "]" was cropped off. I adjusted the left padding of the infobox to the same as MW's thumbnails apparently use (1.4em) and now it seems to be fixed… Do you still get the same result? — 6×9 (Talk) 06:25, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Same result. And in the third test, the [edit] links stack up until you hit the bottom of the infobox (right next to the alternate cover, there are eight of 'em). I'm running the latest (I think) version of Firefox, if that helps: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060215 Firefox/2.0.0.14;MEGAUPLOAD 1.0 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729). --WillMak050389 06:34, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
PS: I am going to bed now (I've stayed up way to late as it is). Good luck!
Good night then :-) I (think I) figured out why this happens, but I don't know how to fix it… if it can be fixed at all. There's the usual workaround of using {{H1Fake}} instead; or we could remove the section edit links entirely on album pages, but that might be a bit too radical. (This wouldn't be an issue if all people used IE6…) — 6×9 (Talk) 07:40, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Firefox owns IE any day, for your information. Um, I know this was brought up once before somewhere and I offered something that does work, but I'm unsure how easy it would be to implement: the box on my user page that holds my userboxes does not have this problem. The [edit] section links show up right where they are supposed to, above the horizontal bar, even though they are beside the box. I think what it uses is a table structure, instead of <div>. Not sure if we can exchange them in the template without messing something else up? --WillMak050389 14:37, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
I've tried your idea by wrapping a table around the whole thing. There's another difference though – {{Userbox}} doesn't have a "clear" built-in, and I'm fairly sure that's what pushes the edit links down. I can't remove that from {{Album Art}}, as it is needed on other pages. So if the current version still doesn't work, we're stuck with this bug. (IE starting to look good now?) — 6×9 (Talk) 21:49, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
It looks like it worked. All the [edit] links are in the right place for me when I view your sandbox test page. Looks like the table thing worked. By the way, I'd rather change my preferences on LW to get rid of [edit] link than switch to IE. --WillMak050389 23:09, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Hey, can you update the anchor-link to the AotW-Archive in {{Album Of The Week}} from "Archive of past Albums Of The_Week" to "2009" or "Recent Albums Of The Week" (although I don't know if it's possible to link there because of italic font). - Chris 03:48, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella

There is no soundtrack album for this film, but it is a musical so so I thought I'd just add the film. However I'm not having much luck.

  1. This is the DVD: http://rateyourmusic.com/film/rodgers_and_hammersteins_cinderella/ but Rate Your Music is chucking a malformed url message at me after I enter the code in the {{FilmFooter}}. I guess this is because the rty parameter is directing to "video" when this is "film"? Can you extend the parameter to take instances such as this into account?
  2. Brandy Norwood & Paolo Montalban:The Sweetest Sounds. It seems I can't link to the film from the song page either, so a bit of adapting (maybe of song) might also be needed here too.

Яєdxx Actions Words 13:14, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, RateYourMusic just recently added films (any films (example: Transformers), which is a separate section from music-related videos (example:Pink Floyd's Live at Pompeii)). I will fix FilmFooter soon. As for song pages, RYM doesn't have specific pages for songs (unless singles count), but you should be able to add a regular link to the album/film page as an added ext. link. So far the RYM parameter is only available in the FilmFooter. Should we integrate it into the ArtistFooter and AlbumFooter too? We could add it to SongFooter, but again it could only link to a film/album/single. --WillMak050389 16:20, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Free Music

Will - if you haven't already you need to check out Amazon's weekly free music newsletter. I've been able to grab a bunch of files from this update including many label samplers. Search Amazon Free Downloads — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Johnnysmoke (talkcontribs), 17:10, 14 August 2009.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually do receive their newsletter, and I've found a few interesting things from it. Seems a full list of free Amazon songs are here. --WillMak050389 19:31, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Your section "Free Music of the Week" is a great idea! I have a nomination for you: Mit Anlauf by JAMMIN*INC. They do an interesting crossover of Reggae, Rock, Ska and Rap with mixed German or English lyrics. Everything licensed under Creative Commons. Check them out :-) Download --Hfs·· 10:41, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Arnold Layne

I've only put it on two so far ;)

Question: Why have you separated some of the singles and listed them on the page?  Яєdxx Actions Words 02:32, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

The four singles listed with the rest of the studio albums contain only non-album songs. Every other single contains music from an album. The only exception is Pink Floyd:The Wall: Music From The Film (1982) which is the first official release of "When the Tigers Broke Free". This song, however has subsequently been released on the reissue for Pink Floyd:The Final Cut (1983). The listing on their page is pretty much made up of any release that contains only new tracks.
BTW, the template looks pretty ballin' (that's another word for slick haha). It would probably function better stylistically if it was collapsible, though. Otherwise, it looks great. --WillMak050389 03:48, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
I didn't make it collapsible because it's supposed to go to the bottom of the page anyway, so there didn't seem to be any benefit. (Unless it's to get to the bottom ad banner… for those users who don't filter them out.) — 6×9 (Talk) 07:43, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
I don't know if anyone uses the category links (I do sometimes), but this pushes them down a considerable amount (I have to scroll now when I didn't before, at least on Arnold Layne). Like I said before, I just think it would be good stylistically, I like what Wikipedia has done with theirs (collapsible with default closed). --WillMak050389 00:03, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Tonite Let's All Make Love in London...No let's not. I've got a headache (lol).
Believe it or not but I have been researching this all day, during which time I have rewritten the entire page on wikipedia, it's sloppy but it's more correct info than what was there. Besides, it will probably all be reverted tomorrow anyways., acquired two of the four releases, made a few corrections to this page and added the Tonite Let's All Make Love in London...Plus EP. I really didn't know all that was going to happen when I started out this morning...!
Oh and I agree Will, I too think collapsible would be preferable. I use category links too.  Яєdxx Actions Words 00:54, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
I don't mean to undermine your enormous amount of work, but I have uploaded File:Various Artists - Tonite Let's All Make Love in London..jpg which is supposed to be the original LP cover (Instant Records). This is according to the liver notes from TLAMLiL...Plus (See for Miles Records). The current image seems to be of the Immediate Records CD reissue (see the staple marks). Should I swap in the Instant cover and keep Immediate as an alternate cover, or would your research reveal otherwise? --WillMak050389 02:35, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
!!!
I should've asked you. I was looking for that cover for hours. I thought I spotted it in the distance once but it was too far away for me to read properly. Yes that is the original album. Instant Records. Swop it in and keep Immediate with the Immediate release. Very well done Will!  Яєdxx Actions Words 08:27, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
The problem with making AL collapsed by default is that anyone interested in the albums, but not the categories, has to de-collapse (dislapse?) it first. So it's a lose-lose situation. — 6×9 (Talk) 17:31, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
True. Are you sure that isn't personal preference creeping in there 6? Rfl Shall we toss a coin? ;) (J/K) No leave it. It's probably of more interest to general users than seeing the categories.  Яєdxx Actions Words 08:27, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] User:WillMak050389/AotW

Will, edit the above page to remove my notes, etc., but please don't delete it, as I found it really helpful.

As you probably know by now, the reason I was a bit reluctant to do this in your absence was because I lack confidence in my abilities on occasions and I didn't want to muck this up for you. But I think I did OK thanks to your notes.

I have always loved Lynyrd Skynyrd and so too Pronounced, so what started out as "check these song pages are basically okay" turned into me devoting all my spare time for a whole day (and night) to perfecting the song pages. In fact I got so engrossed in what I was doing - adding all manner of links, perfecting lyrics, obtaining lyrics for cover versions, doing those pages, etc. - that in the end I was seeing Gold stars!!

Oh and I even found time to create a new template for you along the way too {{AOTW Notify}} (Ok you created it really). Not only should this make your task simpler, but it links to a users category. I thought that might be intersting to some, particularly Cubs and Hornean. However, I'm going to have to amend it because of the way Cubs sorts the notifications on his page. And also because I haven't taken into account non-registered users. And because it would be good to have the user and song connected, not just user name to say they have at one time or a hundred submitted a nomination.

Mmmmm...on reflection maybe I'll just go and shove it to the back of the template cupboard never to be found again (rfl). Ah well, that'll teach me. Still, it's all good practice! "Hey 6...." I think he's still in a state of shock from seeing my pic, because he's gone awfully quiet since then. I know I scare tiny children if I emerge from my hole during daylight hours, but I honestly thought he was made of sterner stuff. Rfl  Яєdxx Actions Words 10:28, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

UPDATE:I created {{Free Music of the Week}}. I will continue to update AOTW, but I have removed the Free Music of the Week feature for the time being.  Яєdxx Actions Words 07:12, September 2, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Minor changes on The Wall songs

Hi Will, Listening The Wall and reading the lyrics, I saw differences between lyrics and what I hear. So, I started editing songs. On "Mother", I added the "you" in "Mother do you think she's good enough". In "Young Lust", I ear "Will some woman in this desert land" instead of "Will some cold woman in this desert land". I'm starting to think that I don't listen to the same release than you. So I stopped editing lyricwiki. What do you think ? User:Dr4Ke 09:29, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Free Music Of the Week suggestion

I have a suggestion for the free music of the week section - John Wesley, Porcupine Tree's touring guitarist has his entire back catalogue available to download at http://www.john-wesley.com/Downloads.html.

[edit] User status

Do you still have your admin superpowers? Because your most recent edits didn't appear as autopatrolled… — 6×9 (Talk) 19:05, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

It seems that I have lost them. My "member of groups" says Autoconfirmed users, Users, emailconfirmed and I do not appear on the Admin List. Actually, it seems a few incorrect users are on there, so something is wrong. Also, I've lost all of my contributions (Special:Contributions/LYRIC-Punktab) since the move and I have nothing in my watchlist (other than a few that I've added since the move). It seems the username problem stole everything from me and put it in Punktab. Are we working on fixing this? --WillMak050389 15:56, September 5, 2009 (UTC)
I've fixed this. I would have fixed it sooner but I didn't notice. Sorry!    Kiefer    talk    contribs    admin   03:19, September 7, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Spoken part in song lyrics & SF.language

Hi, Will,

I know how heartily and strictly you are managing all PF pages, therefore decided to inform you about change, made on Pink Floyd:Speak To Me. Lwt've found some english spoken part in it's lyrics, and my first movement naturally was remove instrumental template from page. Only after that I've noticed that it's not an ordinary page ;). And though imo lwt was right in this case (SF parameter points to the language of text between lyrics tags), I'm sure you are better PF expert, so feel free to undo my edition, if you think it was wrong.
regards, --Lwt 14:43, September 21, 2009 (UTC) senvaikis
I am not quite sure what the procedure is for songs like this. "Speak to Me" and "The Great Gig in the Sky" are clearly instrumentals, but they do include some spoken words. I'll bring this up in the Community Portal and see what others think. --WillMak050389 17:00, September 21, 2009 (UTC)
Before dropping this question into CP, let's make a simple mental experiment: imagine analogous song with spoken lyrics part in other, not English, language. I suppose you agree that having an english translation would be desirable in such case (btw, such spoken parts may be quite long). But how do you imagine such translation - from Instrumental to English? cheers, --Senvaikis (talk) 20:30, September 21, 2009 (UTC)
Well, I had already added the topic to the CP. I understand where you are coming from, but see my question/solution at the CP and feel free to post your situation there. --WillMak050389 21:32, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Rename

Hey,

thanks for the note. I'll check what happened and get back to you shortly. --TOR@Wikia 16:55, October 15, 2009 (UTC)

Please check now, I hope everything's in order. I'll go back and re-check the rest I did, but from the few I looked at while investigating this it seems the rest was carried over fine. Strange...
Do let me know if anything else is wrong. --TOR@Wikia 17:15, October 15, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Your Watchlist

Hey! :)
I'm just getting back into the swing of things (read: digging myself out) and I read about the problem with your watchlist on TOR's talk page. I'm going to do some investigation into this missing-watchlist problems and if you have a chance, I'd really appreciate some info on the following stuff to help me dig to the bottom of this:

  • Do you know the names of any other users who have had this problem (if any)?
  • Can you think of a few pages on your watchlist that were fairly un-popular and probably weren't watched by very many people? That might help me in digging through the database if I can cross-reference them (I'm assuming at the moment that your watchlist is somewhere, but just applied to the wrong user).

Thanks!
