Welcome to LyricWiki.org, Trainman!

LyricWiki is a free, editable database that has over 2,742,844 pages of lyrics! Included in that database can be songs from any genre, country, or language imaginable. Whatever you are into musically, there is likely something here for you. And if not...please add whatever you can!

If you need help getting started, check out the help pages. Actually, you might want to check them out anyway, particularly the Formatting Artists, Formatting Albums and Formatting Songs sections, to see which cool templates you can (and should) use.

If you need any assistance, you can ask for help on my talk page. Another good place to get help with specific editing questions is the Help Desk. The Help Desk is on the watch lists of the site administrators, so you are likely to get an answer fairly quickly. If you have a more general site-related question, you could place your question on the Community Portal, which is where much of the discussion about the site and planning goes on.

An important tip for new users: LyricWiki breaks some of the usual capitalization rules for artists, albums, and song titles. Please see LyricWiki:Page names for more information. These special rules apply to any language that uses Roman-styled letters, whether German, French, English, Spanish, Italian, etc., etc.

Have fun!

Page Ranking Edit

I have upgraded some of the songs you have certified to Gold, but just so you know, songs should not be upgraded beyond Bronze until all relevant info has been checked for/obtained. See Earth, Wind & Fire:September.

I see you nominated "A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request" for SOTD. It's nice to know another there's another Cubs fan around here. Go, Cubs, go! --Cubs Fan (Talk to me) 07:31, January 11, 2010 (UTC)

My favorite team is my hometown Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays -- and I live in L.A. now, so I see the Dodgers most often -- but you gotta love the Cubbies. Trainman 15:44, January 11, 2010 (UTC)

Album type in song template Edit

Hi, Trainman

First of all - thanks for your remarkable contribution to LW. Glad to see what a great job you've done on Peter Gabriel - he really deserves to have a definitive page. I'm going to add some metadata to all PG pages where it's possible. But before that - can you explain one strange your re-reverting, ignoring my comments, and without any arguments? I hate childish edit-wars, so thought it would be better to ask you before any rollbacks. thx, --Senvaikis (talk) 22:31, February 15, 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, I must have missed your comments the first time around. I think what happened was that I was adding another album after you had put the type back, and figured I had forgotten to change the type when I was originally on the page. Don't worry, there won't be any edit war (especially not with Peter Gabriel - I'm finished with my updates to the song/album pages). However, let me try to explain my thinking...
I feel that it's not necessary to specify that an album is a "live album" on a song page, especially when the word "live" is already in the title of the album -- it seems redundant and over-specific to me. I think it could be taken care of, perhaps, using "type" in the header on the album page -- if someone's on the song page and is really curious about why the song appears on more than one "album," they can click through to the album page.
Similarly, I think I may have taken out some instances of the type "compilation album." Again, since most titles of greatest hits/best-of collections make clear that they are greatest hits/best-of collections, I feel that it becomes redundant and over-specific to say "compilation album"; also, I think "compilation album" has the potential to cause confusion, since the type "compilation" has a specific meaning on LyricWiki, as something that's not a single-artist greatest hits/best-of collection.
So if it were totally up to me, I'd reserve "type" on song pages for things that don't count as albums ("single," "EP," "box set," "soundtrack," and "compilation") and reissue/bonus disc situations ("2003 reissue of the album"). Obviously, it's not totally up to me, though. I will try to avoid re-reverting your edits in the future, but I can't promise that I won't take out "live album" or anything else I find redundant. Trainman 23:08, February 15, 2010 (UTC)
Well, then hope you understand that your edits very likely will be reverted by some editor, strictly following LW docs (especially bots ;)). Anyway, re-reverting such edits, try at least attach your arguments. Happy editing, --Senvaikis (talk) 23:49, February 15, 2010 (UTC)

Black Snake Dîamond Röle Edit

I see you corrected Röle in the title but what about Dîamond? Both the î and ö special characters are used on my original LP and my CD reissue. Although not on the page name, it is also titled this way in the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Snake_Diamond_R%C3%B6le.

Even on the issues, however, there seems to be some discrepency when/where these special characters are used. Perhaps this was a typesetting limitation. See http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=1140990 http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=1618263 http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=1494445

Which is correct? --Rossetyler 06:15, February 26, 2010 (UTC)

For whatever reason, I "read" the letter I on the album cover as having a weird-looking dot over it, rather than it being an actual accent mark. I just checked the discussion/history on the Wikipedia page, and don't see any specific reason why their page title has one accent mark and not the other. If you want to change it to î, I'd have no problem with that -- although one could also make an argument that both of the accent marks as used on the album cover should be considered graphic design and not typography (that they're part of the "logo," not part of the name of the album, if that makes sense), so neither one should be used when printing the name of the album. Trainman 22:19, February 26, 2010 (UTC)
So, can we agree that it should either be both (î and ö) or none (i and o)? Based only on the issued artwork I would be inclined to say "both" but all the derivations (web pages, etc.) steer me the other way. Is it art or text? --Rossetyler 04:39, February 28, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, it should definitely be both or neither. Just checked my CD again (the 1995 Rhino reissue), and the title is consistently printed with both accent marks, as Black Snake Dîamond Röle, in the text of the liner notes. You can argue it either way, though, in that the general rule is that one is not supposed to try to match unconventional "design" typography in "text" typography. (Part of my day job is copy editing; that's something I sometimes have to fix. If I see Cartoon Network's Adult Swim written as "[adult swim]" one more time, I swear...)
But...you seem to be a bigger Robyn Hitchcock fan than me (I only have two albums), so I'd say to use your own judgment. Trainman 04:53, February 28, 2010 (UTC)
I have put this to a vote on Musicbrainz http://musicbrainz.org/show/edit/?editid=12070303 and it has passed. I will change things here to match. Thank you for your consideration! --Rossetyler 02:40, March 5, 2010 (UTC)

Album typesEdit

Out of curiosity, why did you remove album types from various Bowie songs? While "live album" or "compilation album" isn't necessary, strictly speaking, they do have some informational value (unlike type=album). — 6×9 (Talk) 08:27, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

Heh -- I had this conversation with Senvaikis a few months ago.
Basically, I think the proper place to go into more detail about each album is the album page; I feel that, for the song page, it's more important to just have a quick look at the titles without a lot of clutter. I've been removing types unless they make the statement "appears on the album..." literally incorrect, that is...
  • ...if it's not an album ("single," "EP," "box set")
  • ...if the song doesn't appear on all versions of an album ("UK release of the album," "1996 reissue of the album"):
  • ...if the album is one of the two types that have special meaning to LyricWiki ("compilation" or "soundtrack")
One problem is that the type often becomes redundant, and I think it looks a little ridiculous: "the live album David Live (1974)" ("live" is already in the name of the album); "the compilation album The Singles Collection (1993)" (based on the title, it should be obvious that it's a collection of songs that were released as singles). Another redundancy I was running into with Bowie was "the compilation box set Sound + Vision (1989)," which I changed to just "box set."
Another problem is that it's easy to confuse the single-artist "compilation album" with the LyricWiki multi-artist designation "compilation" (also, technically, all albums are compilations, but that's a different issue).
So if it were totally up to me, I'd save the types "live album," "compilation album," and the like for use as the "Type" on album pages (and then only if it's not obvious from the album title, as it would be with the examples above). Trainman 02:10, April 20, 2010 (UTC)
I'd like to refrain from any comments, but once my name was mentioned here, one may think that I accepted your position. I didn't. Neither did our common friend Rossetyler. Neither does 6, as you see. Maybe our "most established authorities", WP or MB follows your preferences? No.
I appreciate your prolific and qualified contribution to LW and respect your serious attitude of mind, but let me remind you some wiki-specific things, related to this issue:
  • regard to other, different from yours', opinion;
Adding an epithet "ridiculously unnecessary" to remove comments just after our discussion hardly may be treated as expression of such respect.
  • willingness to learn and accept community experience
If you asked somebody, then maybe you'd not remove the type of album in such case, when it'd be desirable even under your preferences.
  • finally - all editing preferences are acceptable until they aren't going in contradiction with LW docs;
You are misinterpretting the meaning of the term "unnecessary" in LW docs. Unnecessary doesn't mean inadmissible. It only says that if you miss type info, that will not be treated as error. But in no way that doesn't mean that you must or even may remove such info, already entered by someone else (after all, it doesn't go in contradiction to LW docs, moreover - it was entered, following their recomendations). Such edition inevitably leads to "childish edit wars" I tried to warn about in our previous discussion.
Btw, you may find interesting looking at very similar discussion about slippy boundary between unnecessary and inadmissible, not because your name was mentioned there - just to ascertain, that I respect your right to have your own position, and am even ready to defend it ;). That's exactly what I'm trying to do right now, but speaking about other editors rights.
Regards, --Senvaikis (talk) 11:13, April 20, 2010 (UTC)
My apologies -- I thought we had left it as "I see your position, but don't be surprised if those types get put back in at a later date by me or another editor," rather than "I don't think you should be removing those types in the first place." I also do apologize for my use of "ridiculously," as opposed to just "unnecessary."
Let me try to explain my position a little further...
Perhaps my feelings are based on my employment background, as a copy editor, and before that as a closed-captioner (television subtitler for the deaf/hearing-impaired). Those are professions where it's obviously important to get meanings across, but it's also important to do so quickly, to eliminate redundancy, present a consistent appearance, avoid confusion, and so on.
Here's an example from closed captioning: you see someone pick up a landline telephone and press the buttons to dial. You hear the dial tone and the beeps the buttons make, so one could closed-caption the sound effects: [ DIAL TONE ] followed by [ TOUCH-TONE BEEPS ]. That wouldn't be wrong per se, but I wouldn't have put those captions in, and I don't think any of my co-workers would -- because you can see the actions that lead to the expected sound effects. (I definitely would have captioned, for example, [ CRACKLING DIAL TONE ] if the action were taking place during a storm that was affecting the telephone lines.)
We'd sometimes say "they're deaf; they're not stupid" to explain things like that -- why we didn't caption those "obvious" sound effects, or caption every "uh" and "um," or spell out every pun. I guess the equivalent here would be "they're looking for lyrics to songs; they're not stupid" -- they can guess that if the song's third release was on an album titled David Live (1974), that it was a live album. Or that if the song's fifth release was on an album titled The Singles Collection (2003), that it was a collection of songs released as singles. And there are links for more information -- the album page is a click away, and from there, a full overview of things is available from the artist page, or there are links to Wikipedia, or Allmusic, or other sites that can provide copious amounts of information to satisfy curiosity.
I do agree that it can seem odd to say that providing less information can be better, but I really think it is in this particular case, and I hope I've helped a bit with "where I'm coming from." Trainman 00:35, April 21, 2010 (UTC)
Icon - Stop HandThat's getting no longer funny. --Senvaikis (talk) 06:00, April 27, 2010 (UTC)
I'm not trying to be funny. I'm serious about my reasoning above. I'm actually a little disappointed that it didn't get a specific response from you or 6x9, considering the fact that I spent quite a while writing it. (Perhaps it's because the topic of presenting and editing information is somewhat related to my livelihood that I do take it seriously.)
I'm sorry that I hadn't yet had the chance to edit the album pages for The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads and Stop Making Sense to add the "live album" type, my preferred way to handle the situation.
That said, I will stop removing album types from song pages. However, since I still feel somewhat strongly about my position, I may bring up the issue on the Community Portal at some point in the future, to get some other views on the subject besides yours and 6x9's. If I do post about this topic there, I hope you won't feel like I'm attacking you or calling you wrong. I don't think it's possible for anyone to really be "wrong" when it comes to something subjective such as this.
And as it turned out, I was reminded by my iPod today that "Psycho Killer" live has somewhat different lyrics than the studio version. Thus, I created a new song page for the live version. I don't believe the song page needs "live album" specified because "(Live)" is in the page title. However, if someone adds it, I won't take it out, per my pledge above. Song pages Edit

Hey, Trainman. I'm trying to get Ted Nugent up to scratch to nominate for album of the week, but there are a couple of red links that need to be fixed, and I can't quite make the lyrics out enough to create them. Since you've got a pretty good track record of certifying accurate lyrics, could you take a listen to them? Kingnee - Go Ear Audio on GoEar Kingnee - Go Ear Audio on GoEar

Thanks, -Cubs Fan (Talk to me) 07:44, June 7, 2010 (UTC)
I'm actually not that good with creating lyrics from scratch. Pretty much everything I've certified has already had lyrics present (either they were already here, or I had a lyric sheet or another site's lyrics in front of me). If you take your best attempt at them, I'll be happy to bat cleanup. Trainman 02:15, June 8, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, great. I've created the lyrics pages based on what I could make out. I hope you can clean them up. --Cubs Fan (Talk to me) 03:50, June 21, 2010 (UTC)
Just to let you know, I might not be able to get to it for a few days. Trainman 04:33, June 22, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, no problem; I'm not in any hurry. I just needed them to exist, so they can stand being inaccurate for now. --Cubs Fan (Talk to me) 05:06, June 23, 2010 (UTC)

Hey, T. I'm in the process of creating song pages for The Amboy Dukes by the Amboy Dukes, but can you double-check some lyrics for me? I've already checked "I Feel Free" and "It's Not True", but can you get the rest of the songs for me? I'm not in a big rush, but you definitely helped out on those two Ted Nugent songs. --Cubs Fan (Talk to me) 04:08, August 6, 2010 (UTC)

Bronze stars Edit

Hmm, for some bizarre reason, I had some weird impression that artist pages couldn't be ranked bronze until all the albums linked to that page had achieved bronze status as well. Having read over the page ranking guidelines, that's obviously not the case, so I really have no idea where I got that impression. Thanks for pointing that out! Eeepy 03:12, June 8, 2010 (UTC)

Testing Edit

Hey, i'm just testing my custom signature and seeing if it works.

Help, please? Edit

I'm trying to add the following code to the "AddAlb" template for the song Puscifer:Rev_22:20:

{{AddAlb |album2=Underworld: Music From The Motion Picture (2003)|2type=Soundtrack |album3=Don't Shoot The Messenger (2007)|3type=EP |album4=D Is For Dubby (The Lustmord Dub Mixes) (2008) |album5=Sound Into Blood Into Wine (2010) }}

For example:

Because the song title is Rev 22:20, the ":" character seems to be screwing me up in the title. Although the comp comes up with a good link for some strange reason, but the others come up red when they shouldn't. Please tell me what I must do to get around this & make it work! I am constantly trying to learn & expand my coding abilities, so would really appreciate any words of wisdom. Thank you! BeatriceBlue 23:00, January 29, 2011 (UTC)

This appears to be a problem with the way the AddAlb template gets the name of the artist that it uses to create the links to the album pages -- it's trying to link to album pages as if the name of the artist were Puscifer:Rev 22. (That's not an issue with the soundtrack because there isn't an artist in the link that's created there.) Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about editing/creating templates. You might try asking on the Help Desk page, or go directly to 6 times 9, who's responsible for the AddAlb template. Trainman 23:19, January 29, 2011 (UTC)
Strange, but {tl|AddAlbs}} treats all items as albs of artist "Puscifer:Rev_22", e.g. your assumpion about ":" was right. I've even tried to avoid that, ranaming(moving) this song by inserting a space after ":", but that didn't help...
Maybe both we still haven't noticed some other detail. But I'm sure 6 will come here soon and fix a problem (it's related to Artist variable, I suspect). --Senvaikis (talk) 23:38, January 29, 2011 (UTC)
No edit to the template necessary :-) 6×9 (Talk) 07:23, January 30, 2011 (UTC)
Simple! Thank you. Now I know what to do. Just curious, is the redirct necessary now? I'd suspect not. (I see you also edited my original example. I sat here staring at it wondering how come it worked now too! Duh! LOL) BeatriceBlue 21:20, January 30, 2011 (UTC)
Do you mean the redirect from "22:20" to "22: 20"? No, that's not necessary. I've moved it back to its correct title. 6×9 (Talk) 21:38, January 30, 2011 (UTC)

Basia BulatEdit

Hi. I'm not really familiar with how this site works, is there a section where I can request lyrics? I've been trying to find the lyrics to two Basia Bulat songs, I saw your name as the editor of her lyrics page here so I thought I'd ask you. please I need those lyrics! just in case, they're called My Heart Is A Warning and You Are A Gift. looking forward to your reply. cheers.--85.17.25.94 19:07, March 11, 2011 (UTC)

There is a request page that you can use, although I'm not sure how often it gets checked, or by how many people. I'd be happy to make an attempt to transcribe the lyrics for those songs when I get a chance, except that I don't have them in my collection -- can you point me to someplace they can be listened to online?
Since this is a wiki, there's no one set editor for the various pages; it just happens that I was the last one to touch Basia Bulat (I'm in the midst of a long process of cleaning up numerous artists here). Anyone is welcome to add new lyrics or edit existing lyrics or other pages. Trainman 19:18, March 11, 2011 (UTC)

Hey Trainman. Well, I could add my request to that page but I doubt many people have heard of Basia Bulat, let alone two of her lesser known songs which cannot be easily found everywhere... it'd be great if you could have a go at them once you have free time. I'm in no hurry. as for the links, you can listen to You Are a Gift here or download free mp3 from this site. I can't find the other one on the internet for free listen/download, but I can upload and send it to you if you're OK with it.--85.17.25.94 17:05, March 14, 2011 (UTC)

Sure, I'll get to that one song as soon as I can. For the other one, you can email me via the "this user can be reached by email" link near the top of my user page (you might need to officially sign up here to get a username first -- not sure about that), and then I'll reply with the go-ahead to send the song as an attachment. Trainman 17:09, March 14, 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I did my best with "You Are a Gift". Not 100% sure about some of the lyrics (especially the first part of the second verse) if you've got a better idea, please edit them -- that's the whole point of this site. Trainman 01:58, March 15, 2011 (UTC)

-- Thanks a lot for transcribing "Gift". though it takes a lot of nerve for me, a non-native speaker of English, to make corrections to your transcription, but sure, I will if I see one :)

I have uploaded the other song and I'm gonna send it to you through this email thing on wiki right now, please let me know if it actually reaches you (or if you'd rather receive it as an attachment). Zeddian@gmail.com 16:33, March 24, 2011 (UTC)

Your English is better than my attempts at every other language. I did get the MP3, and I'll try to work on it this weekend. Trainman 00:28, March 25, 2011 (UTC)
I created "My Heart Is a Warning." The chorus is definitely correct. The two verses definitely are not, because she is just too hard to understand. I'm sorry about that. The good news is that the fact there are some lyrics there makes it more likely someone will come along later and correct them. Trainman 01:53, March 26, 2011 (UTC)

Wow you're fast! Yeah Basia tends to pronounce the words vaguely sometimes. I'd gotten most of 'Gift' fairly right but honestly, couldn't really understand what she was signing in 'Warning' bar one or two lines. I needed these lyrics cause I just love Basia and her music so much - so again thanks a lot for your help.--Zeddian@gmail.com 17:01, March 26, 2011 (UTC)

You're welcome, but as I said, please don't think that the lyrics I put in are 100% correct. Trainman 23:34, March 27, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah I know :D

Since I'm American, and it appears Station7 is Norwegian, his English might be even better than mine! I was glad to see that 6x9 had added a CD track listing to at least one of Station7's pages, since it gave me an example to point to. Trainman 05:21, May 10, 2011 (UTC)

Certifying Songs Edit

Hi, I was just kind of wondering what it means to certify a song, and if I would be able to do that?

(The Average Joe 23:48, June 26, 2011 (UTC))

Responded on The Average Joe's talk page. (Short answer for the benefit of others: it means to verify that the lyrics here are correct, by listening to the song while reading them and making edits if necessary -- and yes, you can do that.) Trainman 00:07, June 27, 2011 (UTC)

Chat Edit

Hello Trainman! Would you like to chat?

hard4me 18:39, August 13, 2011 (UTC)

I'm almost always in chat when I'm doing work on the site -- the big exception is that sometimes I do some editing while I'm on breaks at my job, and I don't go into chat from there. (That's during the day in U.S. Pacific time, Monday through Friday.) Trainman 19:14, August 13, 2011 (UTC)

Billie Ray Martin: Deadline For My Memories Edit

Hi Trainman,

For the above artist & album page I changed the release year for the album Deadline For My Memories from 1996 to 1995. 1995 was the original release year for the UK, Australian & German markets. 1996 the album was released in the US & Canada. In changing the info to 1995 I have broken a page link and it now shows in red. Can you please assist in fixing this for me as I can't see what the error maybe. Thanks.

Regards, Ritchie.

Katesbush999 01:20, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

Got it -- the page for the album still showed 1996 as the year, so I renamed the album page: Billie Ray Martin:Deadline For My Memories (1995). Trainman 01:30, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

SOTD August 23, 2011Edit

Hi Trainman! I'm just here to tell you that your nomination of Big Mama Thornton:Hound Dog has won Song of the Day for August 23, 2011!
Thanks for nominating a song and for contributing to LyricWiki!
-ÜberBot 07:00, August 23, 2011 (UTC)

Hiya.Edit

Hey man. I have a question. You see, one of my favorite artists, Brentalfloss, released a version of his first album called "What If This CD... Had G-Rated Lyrics", and I was wondering if I should make a page for that, since the G-Rated album changes entire verses and the lyrics are not the same. Thanks in advance. XxTimberlakexx 14:25, September 3, 2011 (UTC)

I say yes, that should be a separate album page. Trainman 19:04, September 3, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I thought so too, because some of the lyrics are completely different. I'll make the page, and you tell me what you think. XxTimberlakexx 20:52, September 3, 2011 (UTC)

only own edits in rss feed? Edit

You told me in the chat to ask on your userpage, so here I am. ;)

I am using Special:WatchlistFeed to notice changes to pages I have edited, but somehow it seems like the feed only contains my own changes, not those of others. I receive the changes of others via email so I know there had been other changes, but don't see them in the watchlist feed.

Do you know if there's something broken with the feed, or can it be somewhat configured in any way? And any news on the missing tooltips on the achievement badges? :)

Rhonda D'Vine 20:04, September 20, 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately, you've got probably the least technically-oriented of the administrators here.
I don't use the watchlist myself, but I just turned it on and the RSS feed is showing edits made by others to the pages I'm watching, so I don't know what the problem could be in your case.
Sean Colombo would probably be the person to ask about the tooltips, as I think I said in chat. Actually, you might consider asking both questions on the Community Portal page, where one of the administrators will be more likely to see it (as well as other users who may be having the same problem). Trainman 20:11, September 20, 2011 (UTC)
Are the changes you see in the RSS feed the same you see on Special:Watchlist? If yes, you can choose which pages to show in your preferences. If not, there's probably something broken with the RSS feature, and your best option is to let Sean know. — 6×9 (Talk) 17:49, September 21, 2011 (UTC)

Question about my SOTD nominationEdit

Hey, I nominated this song for September 12, and it wasn't song of the day that day. Was it postponed, or was another song on that preferred date? You can move it to a date within this week if you would like. XxTimberlakexx 20:09, October 3, 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, I haven't done any work on the SOTD queue in a while (been distracted by other stuff, particularly on the weekends). Would you settle for the week after next?
It appears that your preferred date nomination just got overlooked. Because the process for moving songs from the "potential" queue into the actual SOTD queue is almost entirely manual, the closer a submission comes to a preferred date, the more likely it is that an admin won't notice that it's in there. Trainman 20:33, October 3, 2011 (UTC)
Well, September 12th was the perfect day for the nomination, since it was the band's drummer's birthday, but sure, I could settle for next week. Whenever available :) But yeah, I figured it just got overlooked. XxTimberlakexx 00:26, October 4, 2011 (UTC)

Hey Jim!Edit

Hey man, how are ya? It's Nicolas. I've been experiencing a few problems with LyricWiki lately.

First of all, a few weeks ago, the site froze whenever I tried to edit a page unless I was on Monobook. The other day, I tried using the wikia skin again to see if it worked, and it did, but there were a few odd changes:

lyriv.png

As you see in the picture, the title text is in bold, and the recent changes is italicized, as well as the lyrics are pushed farther down.. I'm also not able to access chat at all. On top of that, the text in the edit page is considerably smaller. Just curious, am I the only one experiencing this? Thanks in advance!

XxTimberlakexx 22:46, October 13, 2011 (UTC)

That's weird -- I haven't noticed any of that. I've had no problems with the Wikia skin, both on Firefox on my PC running Windows XP at work, and on Safari on my Mac at home. Trainman 00:03, October 14, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I seriously don't know what's going on with Wikia for my computer. It does this for other wikis, too. I miss going to chat the most. XxTimberlakexx 00:11, October 14, 2011 (UTC)

Hey againEdit

Hey Jim! It's funny that we both play Words with Friends and Family Feud, ain't it? :P

Anyway, quick question: I've been doing work on label categories lately, and I was wondering: should the category include "Records" in the category name or not? Because for example, Polydor Records is the official name on Wikipedia, yet the majority of the artists here on the Polydor label are in this category, without "Records" in the title. However, I've noticed other categories with "Records" in the title. Which one is the correct way to do it? XxTimberlakexx 02:59, November 15, 2011 (UTC)

I'd say follow the company name per Wikipedia (that way we have something to point to for consistency's sake), so feel free to change all those "Polydor" artists to "Polydor Records." Trainman 03:07, November 15, 2011 (UTC)
Record labels is the one thing where I wouldn't stick with Wikipedia, since it seems they append "Records" to each and every one. I've checked a few Polydor CDs (and even one LP) and "Polydor Records" doesn't crop up anywhere. (See also [1] vs [2].) That's why I suggested long ago using Discogs rather than Wikipedia for reference.
Mind you, this isn't really a policy, so if the majority agree to use WP names instead then that's what we'll do. — 6×9 (Talk) 08:17, November 15, 2011 (UTC)
I'll just use the Wikipedia names then. I'll see what I can do. I'll leave the "Polydor" artists alone for now.XxTimberlakexx 12:41, November 15, 2011 (UTC)
After further review, I think I agree with 6x9. MusicBrainz, which I've found to be fairly reliable about record label names, also has it as just Polydor. Trainman 14:48, November 15, 2011 (UTC)

Brazilian Girls:Die Gedanken Sind Frei (Thoughts Are Free)Edit

Hi man, had to move Brazilian Girls:Die Gedanken Sind Frei (Thoughts Are Free) to Traditional:Die Gedanken Sind Frei cuz the lyrics were the traditional German ones. Now I can't move the page with Brazilian Girls' actual lyrics Brazilian Girls:Die Gedken Sind Frei (Thoughts Are Free) (misspelled title) to the accurate page. How can I do that? Or would you be so kind to do that for me as an admin? Thx      Lichtweber       talk    contribs    ♫

Looks like 6x9 took care of it. In the future, when you need an admin's help with an edit/move/something like that, instead of leaving the same message on several different talk pages, you can use the Job Exchange page. Trainman 16:02, October 24, 2011 (UTC)

Reporting a page for deletion Edit

I can't seem to find a way to report pages so I am posting this on some admins pages (because all I could find was a list of admins). While I was adding a band and its lyrics I used English capitalization and then I realized that I had to actually capitalize each word. So I ended up having to pages. I want to delete the one that doesn't follow wikia's capitalization rules, which would be http://lyrics.wikia.com/The_Cumshots:Praying_for_Cancer

Thanks in advance

Rename album cover file Edit

Hello, Sorry for my english ... I want to rename the file (album cover) named "Orelsan_-_Le_Champ_Des_Sirènes.jpg" to "Orelsan_-_Le_Chant_Des_Sirènes.jpg" because it's not the correct name of the album. Can you do that ? If you can't, can i just correct the name of file in artist page and album page to see this cover ?

Hey Edit

Hey again, Jim. Been a while. So, I have another quick wiki question. The Album list templates; I noticed only 200 artists have them. Are these templates important and do artists need to have them? I'm guessing artists don't need to have them since only 200 have this template. Thanks in advance. XxTimberlakexx 20:34, January 7, 2012 (UTC)

No, they don't need to have them -- feel free to add them if you want, especially if it's an artist with a lot of albums, but I don't think they're especially important. Trainman 21:19, January 7, 2012 (UTC)
I figured. Thanks. XxTimberlakexx 18:04, January 8, 2012 (UTC)

Damien Jurado edits Edit

Hey Trainman. I saw that you'd been doing some work on Damien Jurado and noticed you changed the main page to a straight chronological sort instead of sorting by studio albums and EP'/singles first. Is there any reason to choose one way over the other? I've seen some other artist pages with more lengthy discographies separate studio albums and EP's and liked the way it looked, that's why I chose that method. Just trying to figure out the best way to do things to be consistent with the rest of the site.

Thanks. Vandergus 15:43, February 12, 2012 (UTC)

Having albums and EPs together chronologically is preferred -- please take a look at the Album List section on the Artist formatting help page. Personally, I think it's easier to "see" all of an artist's releases if there's only one list with everything combined. Trainman 22:50, February 12, 2012 (UTC)
Ahh, thanks. That page answers a lot of questions I've had, like how to properly format bonus tracks. Can't believe I'd never found it before. -- Vandergus 12:56, February 13, 2012 (UTC)

Apologies Edit

Hi, Trainman

Should inform you about some Tori Amos songs headers damages I've made unintentionally yesterday, while Lwt (running under my account to overcome protection) was trying to clean Special:WantedPages from pseudomembers of type API:Album.
That's not the first time when Lwt breaks some fine tunings of song headers (removing all singles or additional notes). That's not Lwt, but my fault - forgetting periodically about this Lwt limitation...
Strictly speaking, all my/Lwt yesterday's editions with comments, containing "AddAlb" or "SH_Album" should be rechecked... I've fixed some damaged songs, but not sure abot fix completeness, - that's why I decided to let you know about incident (if you haven't noticed it yet).
My apologies... --Senvaikis (talk) 08:53, March 2, 2012 (UTC)

Songs and featured enhanced songs Edit

Hi, just a simple question. How to name a song when the song was re-recorded with a featured artist inclusive enhanced lyrics? More concrete: Matisse:Sunny Mae and the re-recorded version Matisse:Sunny Mae (feat. Adriana Babali)/Matisse:Sunny Mae ft. Andrianna Babali. The latter two are actually against the PN rules but of course Sunny Mae is already taken. What to do in such cases with the page names? - MusicAddict 02:05, March 3, 2012 (UTC)

Matisse:Sunny Mae (Feat. Adriana Balali) -- with a capital F -- would be fine. Trainman 02:52, March 6, 2012 (UTC)
Figured that out when 6 times 9 renamed it to that in the meantime. Nevertheless, what on occasions with Intros/Outros that are different? Sometimes with lyrics and sometimes not. Is it okay to name the page with the according year? Whereas the first In/Outro (ideally) gets the name In/Outro and following ones are "suffixed" with the year they got released? So to say Intro1 of Band X gets pagename Intro, Intro2 of Band X of the next record in let's say 2012 gets the pagename Intro (2012) or Intro 2012? Latter one might be preferable in case there is actually an album named In/Outro (Year). Couldn't find any help on the help pages in this matter. - MusicAddict 16:35, March 7, 2012 (UTC)
There's no policy for this, but for most artists I've seen with more than one intro, people name them "Album Name Intro", which seems sensible (and looks a bit friendlier than "Intro 20xx", I think). — 6×9 (Talk) 18:27, March 7, 2012 (UTC)
Albumname Intro sounds appropriate as well. Okay, I'll keep that in mind for future occasions. Thanks! :) - MusicAddict 19:30, March 7, 2012 (UTC)

Thank u for welcoming me and the useful information (Dbzroolz 22:53, March 13, 2012 (UTC))

SamplesEdit

Hey man, it's me again. Been a long time.

I just came to you for another question (as always). So, do you think we should propose a Sample template, for songs that sample another song? For example, this song samples 7 different songs, but I listed them in cover templates for now. This could be quite a handy template, and similar to the Cover2 template, we could make a Sample2 template that could go on the song being sampled. Tell me what you think.

Great to talk to you again, by the way.

XxTimberlakexx 21:10, April 23, 2012 (UTC)

Sounds like an excellent, and probably overdue, idea -- especially since a sample isn't really the same thing as a cover, so I don't know if it's appropriate to use the cover templates for samples. Trainman 21:59, April 23, 2012 (UTC)

Censorship Edit

Hi, Jim,

just wanted to ask if you have seen this discussion, and what do you think about all that.
Btw, you may want to either provide a valid e-mail address in your preferences, or just remove according UBX from your profile page :)
regards, Senvaikis (talk) 15:55, November 29, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads-up. I thought I had a valid email address. Let me check on that... Trainman (talk) 20:00, November 30, 2012 (UTC)
Bizarre...my primary email address is trainman@(a domain I own), but if I try to use that one, the confirmation emails seem to go into a black hole (not even going to the spam folder or anywhere else). Gmail worked fine, as did other email addresses at my domain. Wonder if it's a Wikia bug involving email usernames that happen to match Wikia usernames. 6 x 9 and Depeche ModeEdit

Can you or someone else please review the actions of admin 6 x 9 in his massacre of many hours of user labor on the Depeche Mode page, please? He feels Singles should not be listed unless they contain exclusive content, for redundancy purposes supposedly. Can you please weigh-in on how a thorough page warrants being stripped of its content and left a mangled mess of inaccuracies? For instance, he deleted Singles of "Dreaming of Me" and "New Life", which even according to his own standards, contained non-album tracks. I would appreciate any comment, as I do not feel it is right to undo so much legitimate content because one mod wants it that way. I know I will not be participating in this site anymore if so many hours of work can be undone on a whim. Thanks for your opinion — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Condemned82 (talkcontribs).

Just wanted to let you know I saw this, but it's about my bedtime here -- I'll take a look at the situation tomorrow. I assume you've already talked to 6 x 9 about it...? Trainman (talk) 07:32, February 20, 2013 (UTC)
I'm not the only one who seems to have a problem with it, judging by the page's edit history. There's already comments on his Talk page, so I have posted onto that. Thanks for the response!Condemned82 (talk) 08:28, February 20, 2013 (UTC)
Looks like you're already discussing it with EchoSierra over on 6 x 9's talk page, so I'll stay out. Too many cooks spoil the broth, or something like that. Trainman (talk) 00:11, February 21, 2013 (UTC)

iTunes IconEdit

I uploaded the 16x16 icon from iTunes.exe so that looks much better — The preceding unsigned comment was added by DanTheMan827 (talkcontribs).

Indeed it does! Excellent, thanks. Trainman (talk) 22:02, March 11, 2013 (UTC)

Al Green:Here I Am (Come And Take Me)Edit

Hi Trainman, Sorry about the move of the page, I was working off of the HHGG album, and moved more than Just al's to the wrong artist! (most are Attributed to Joby Talbot) Thanks for catching that, there's a few more mismoves to correct! --ES (talk) 02:15, March 30, 2013 (UTC)
