Fixed bugs from the transition to Wikia

  1. Like with the renames, despite what we have been informed, since yesterday there is now no right click, and therefore so too no copy and paste, on ANY of the pages on the site. Amongst other things (like losing even more users due to the ties and frustration this presents in editing pages...on a wiki??), this means that pages like for example our longstanding and popular feature "Song of the Day" can't be updated. In other words, no right click = no SOTD. Yes, I have got a workround, but my workaround is not the answer. This needs to be fixed across the site, and fast. While we still have some users left. Яєdxx Actions Words 06:51, October 3, 2009 (UTC)
This should be fixed by tomorrow. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 22:16, October 5, 2009 (UTC)
  2. Hidden categories aren't working. (They appear together with the "normal" ones at the bottom, no matter what I set in my preferences.)
  3. I recently created Mountain:The Great Train Robbery, but on the Nantucket Sleighride album page, the song still appears as a red link. --Cubs Fan (Talk to me) 07:14, September 26, 2009 (UTC)
Does the red link lead to a page that's prefixed with "lyrics/"? Because it sounds to me like you're seeing the effect of this. — 6×9 (Talk) 08:48, September 26, 2009 (UTC)
Nope, it leads directly to the lyrics page. --Cubs Fan (Talk to me) 15:55, September 26, 2009 (UTC)
Must've been a caching issue Cubs as seems OK now. I am experiencing delays like this too now.  Яєdxx Actions Words 03:18, October 7, 2009 (UTC)
  4. Null or not an object error; --Senvaikis (talk) 09:56, September 18, 2009 (UTC)
  5. Can we enable the MediaWiki API for Bot users?
MW API should be temporarily enabled for all users. Not sure how long we'll be able to leave it that way, but hopefully we'll be able to find another solution if we do have to shut it off. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 22:16, October 5, 2009 (UTC)
  6. Watchlist feeds don't seem to be working (but that's probably just because of the user-merge... my feed is telling me that "The watchlist feed for Angela is disabled. Please log in to enable it".)
  7. My edit dates are showing up oddly in some cases; periodically a page will say "NYCScribbler made an edit to this page on June 26th, 2009", when we weren't even Wikia'ed. NYCScribbler 02:46, September 6, 2009 (UTC)
This is not a bug. I would no for sure if you provided an example, but generally -- that just takes the author of the last version from history and displays it. --TOR@Wikia 15:21, September 10, 2009 (UTC)
  8. Interwiki links to main wiki work (wikia:Main Page), but transclusion from same doesn't – see User:Sxerks for example. — 6×9 (Talk) 04:53, September 9, 2009 (UTC)
Fixed. Just purge if you see a problem anywhere. --TOR@Wikia 15:21, September 10, 2009 (UTC)
  9. XML tag is not working.
    Fixed. http://lyrics.wikia.com/lyrics/User:Redxx/Last.fm_Recent_Tracks says it's working. --TOR@Wikia 14:03, September 14, 2009 (UTC)
Thank you :-) I still have a problem in that the the reload/purge wants to create a page called index.php, but I'll try and sort that myself.  Яєdxx Actions Words 07:53, September 15, 2009 (UTC) "Hey 6..."
  10. New-page templates seem to be on an old version of the extension: no green star, old Song Footer parameters, Page Ranking templates not displaying on talk pages, etc. The initial content might be in a site-message, don't recall at the moment.
Ha! Fixed. Dummy edit to the relevant MediaWiki page helps. --TOR@Wikia 15:46, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
  11. Not all old site-messages work; MediaWiki:Deletereason-dropdown is ignored, for example.
Should be fixed now, after null-edits to all MediaWiki pages. — 6×9 (Talk) 17:54, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
  12. Patrolling-related features are gone from RecentChanges & Watchlist.
    Fixed. --TOR@Wikia 15:30, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
  13. Wikipedia links don't work as the link is now being preceded by "Lyrics/"
    Should be fixed after an action=purge. --TOR@Wikia 15:46, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
Maybe it doesn't completely works. Check Pink Floyd. When it's 2+ words it uses "+". Titaki 16:22, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
    Corrected. :P --TOR@Wikia 17:27, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
Yes, this template worked but, as I subsequently discovered, none of the other wikipedia templates did :( Anyways, I have now fixed them all. Apologies for job queue but it couldn't really be avoided because these templates are widely used.  Яєdxx Actions Words 23:43, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
  14. The links to all the Boston lyrics redirect to Boston.wikia.com. This is probably a problem which will manifest itself for all artists who have the same name as another Wikia because the link will be interpreted as interwiki. EXAMPLE: Boston:More Than A Feeling
Wikia-specific interwikis were removed as they screwed up the wiki. Everything should be back to normal when cache clears. --TOR@Wikia 17:03, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
  15. Interwiki links mean that song links for artist W (possibly others as well) no longer work.
Artist W now directs to Wikipedia, but there are probably many more that don't.  Яєdxx Actions Words 14:33, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
Wikia-specific interwikis were removed as they screwed up the wiki. Everything should be back to normal when cache clears. --TOR@Wikia 17:03, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
  16. PAGESINCAT returns 0 for most categories, and Special:Categories is woefully underpopulated. (But they seem to be slowly growing back.)
    Fixed, right? --TOR@Wikia 00:08, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
  17. {{Deletion}} template not working properly EXAMPLE: Previous revision of Mnemic:Mechanical Spin Phenenomenon
Fixed now. Thanks.  Яєdxx Actions Words 22:39, September 5, 2009 (UTC)
  18. "Trusted" users are no longer. Trusted, I mean; they're still users of course.
    Fixed. --TOR@Wikia 12:12, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
  19. No separation lines in between columns in tables EXAMPLE:very top of my user page
Fixed (on my user page at least). Thanks.  Яєdxx Actions Words 12:42, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
  20. Main Page layout now looks very bad
If you meant what I think you did -- right column buttons lacking CSS -- that should be fixed now. If it's anything else, you probably need to rework the main page. --TOR@Wikia 17:03, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
The main page relies heavily on classes defined in various css files, all of which are in the MediaWiki namespace, so this is most likely (yet) another symptom of site-messages not working. — 6×9 (Talk) 17:18, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
Yes fixed now thank you (apart from iTunes xml problem, which is also evidenced with the lastfm. widgets, etc)
  21. The #vardefineecho function stopped working. Since many templates (including {{Song}}) use this, it's rather important. (#vardefine and #var still work though.)
    See directly below. ;) --TOR@Wikia 17:03, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
  22. NOTE: Wikia did a redeploy this morning which overwrote some of the configuration so most (if not all) of our extensions will be unavailable until the guy gets up who can fix them (should be pretty soon).
    This was fixed. --TOR@Wikia 17:03, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
  23. lyric tags just stopped working as well.
    See directly above. --TOR@Wikia 17:03, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
  24. Batchmove and Wikify are MIA.
Both appear to work now (Wikify does work; didn't check Batchmove). — 6×9 (Talk) 17:14, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
  25. {{SUBST:
What about subst? Works for me. --TOR@Wikia 17:03, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
    Can't find a problem with it either. — 6×9 (Talk) 17:14, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
  26. An admin trying to use Special:RefreshSpecial gets a permission error.
This special page is actually not needed at Wikia, as we update the expensive pages regularly and the inexpensive pages are live. This was confirmed with Sean. --TOR@Wikia 00:08, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
  27. My user page has completely disappeared! [1] You nicked it 6? I know you're jealous 'cos it's much better than yours;)  Яєdxx Actions Words 20:53, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
You wish! Still able to view it in edit mode (you might want to re-protect it BTW; all page protections were lost during the move), but when you hit preview you get another server error. — 6×9 (Talk) 04:51, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
Again, if you want something done... And I'm the non-techie?? Rfl. Seems the problem was that my reputation has preceded me and the guys over here at Wikia were trying to claim me as one of their own :-) I simply told them "I'm extremely flattered guys but I feel you should know that my heart belongs to LyricWiki. But Ok, seeing as you are being so helpful in trying to help us iron out the creases, you can have a piece of me (no not that bit, that bit, there), but only 'cos I trust Sean and Sean says it's Ok" ;)  Яєdxx Actions Words 08:23, September 4, 2009 (UTC) P.S. Thanks for providing me with the link 6. I couldn't get into edit mode (obviously) so that enabled me to sort it.
  28. Bots aren't able to operate... :(  Яєdxx Actions Words 15:40, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
Answered.  Яєdxx Actions Words 22:39, September 5, 2009 (UTC)
  29. Anyone seen my user page as I seem to have mislaid it ?  Ñôīέ2çяȳTalk 18:18, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
Same problem as with Red's, apparently: xml tags caused a server error. — 6×9 (Talk) 18:29, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

Many of these appear to originate in the non-working MediaWiki: pages (where the css files which hold the classes for main page, deletion template etc. are located as well). So maybe the top priority should be to get them to work again (though I've no idea how, sorry). — 6×9 (Talk) 16:46, September 2, 2009 (UTC)

*bump* Can something be done about this? Only we are getting a LOT of new song/album/artist pages with dated auto-templates, which will all need to be fixed. — 6×9 (Talk) 11:19, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I'll talk to Sean about this later today. --TOR@Wikia 12:12, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
Dummy edit to the relevant MediaWiki page helps. I would fix them all but I don't know the titles and wouldn't want to miss something. --TOR@Wikia 15:46, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
*slaps forehead* Now why didn't I think of trying that? Thanks a lot! Thankfully there's the PrefixIndex… now off to fixing the rest. Thanks again! — 6×9 (Talk) 17:39, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

Exciting day!

Hi, Sean -- Welcome to Wikia! :) -- Danny@Wikia (talk) 17:56, September 1, 2009 (UTC)

API

Hi, Sean,

I can only imagine what a hard days you've had, but I'm sure all these troubles are temporary and finally our site will only win - every cloud has its silver lining :).
To show that we are minded to continue our job, - here's my "branded" question about API ;). After LW linking to the new url, new site api was initially activated an worked properly, but later was disabled. I suspect that it was done under design, keeping in mind latest events.
So my question: is it possible to set LocalSettings.php parameter $wgEnableAPI=true for some particular accounts or groups (bots f.e.)? Hope you understand what I'm talking about - my Lwt is absolutely toothless without api ;)
Tia, --Senvaikis (talk) 19:16, September 1, 2009 (UTC)
Hey Senv,
Ah. The licensing agreements that Wikia has require them to shut down OUR api, and for safety the MediaWiki API has been shut down too. Not sure what the restrictions will be, but it sure would be nice if just bots & tools could access the MediaWiki API but again, I'm not sure if that'll be allowed. I'll talk to them about it.
Thanks for bringing this up!
-Sean Colombo (talk|contribs) 19:30, September 1, 2009 (UTC)
What's wrong with just giving us an API for handing you the Artist and Songname and getting back a proper URL? I thought the bigwigs were originally OK with that, but it appears that even that interface is now down (maybe it's temporary, but maybe not). *sadpanda*
-Adm.Wiggin 00:48, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
Since no one else seems to have mentioned it here, I will. For completeness's sake, this is up. You must supply "action=lyric" in addition to the normal api.php parameters, but it works the same way.
For example: http://lyrics.wikia.com/api.php?action=lyrics&artist=Creed&song=Overcome&fmt=xml
-Adm.Wiggin 22:56, September 15, 2009 (UTC)
You need to enable the "writeapi" userright just for bots and other trusted people. 96.255.93.165 23:46, September 1, 2009 (UTC)

Will the lyricwiki API in its current form (i.e. no lyrics returned via the API, but the URL of the appropiate wiki page) continue to exist or is even that functionality scheduled to be taken offline? 88.64.68.4 14:26, September 3, 2009 (UTC)

Well, I guess that question is answered: since I asked this, the API has been taken down. Any chance to get it back? Or could you release the source code so that tools can integrate the API functionality (mapping artist/title to a wiki URL) themselves? Thanks, 84.56.46.119 12:08, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
It would even be nice to at least have some list of replacements that need to be made to artist/title. This seems like a decent option if the source code can't/shouldn't be released. Adm.Wiggin 16:11, September 8, 2009 (UTC)
It is my current understanding that the API will be coming back in it's non-lyrical form (ie: you can search and get back a link to the page). It's just a matter of getting it to work. Last I checked, this was one of the top items on the dev's todo lists so I'd expect it fairly soon.
-Sean Colombo (talk|contribs) 16:17, September 8, 2009 (UTC)
It's pity if my question wasn't clear enough, but I was asking preeminently about MWAPI. I'm sure that in hands of admin this api may be a very useful tool for all kinds of site monitoring and handling and (unlike some functions of our api) doesn't go in confrontation with any licensing agreements. --Senvaikis (talk) 19:43, September 8, 2009 (UTC)
Wow! Thanks! --Senvaikis (talk) 14:41, September 9, 2009 (UTC)
(Previous message refers to the fact that the MediaWiki API has been re-enabled (last I heard it will continue to be so as long as we're allowed).
-Sean Colombo 23:36, October 15, 2009 (UTC)

Kinda urgent

Looks like the new-page templates reverted to some earlier version(s) – try to create a new song page: no green star, old SF parameters… — 6×9 (Talk) 20:18, September 1, 2009 (UTC)

Some other things changed as well – e.g. MediaWiki:Deletereason-dropdown is ignored. — 6×9 (Talk) 08:29, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
There's far too many things wrong to mention 6, you'll be here all day :(
Talking of creating pages, have you tried creating a song talk page?
Wikipedia links are kinda urgent too - none work as the link is now being preceded by "/lyrics"  Яєdxx Actions Words 10:08, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
Umm, I already mentioned the song page bit above. I semi-fixed the wp link in ArtistHeader, but it doesn't work with unicode yet. I'll come up with a better solution (for all wp links) this evening. — 6×9 (Talk) 10:15, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
Pity some pages didn't get lost during the move… — 6×9 (Talk) 10:34, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
Yeah right. So the white song talk page? Are you going to fix this too 6, i.e. put it to what it should be and make it nice and brown again?  Яєdxx Actions Words 10:41, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
Can't fix that; it's to do with the site-messages (MediaWiki namespace) not working. (Same as new song/album/artist, or delete reasons.) — 6×9 (Talk) 13:04, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
Ok well at least the wikipedia links now seem to work. And thank you for fixing {{audio}} X Regards to Inga ;)  Яєdxx Actions Words 16:27, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
I spoke too soon about the Wikipedia links. They weren't fixed (only one was). But they are now :-)  Яєdxx Actions Words 00:04, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
Pretty sure these were all solved via the bugs list. Feel free to re-open the convo if I'm mistaken.

Wikia???

Dear Sean Colombo,

I am very disappointed to see such an excellent project like LyricWiki (and one of the best wikis NOT hosted by Wikia) get sucked into a dump like Wikia, the for profit parasite tentacle of Jimbo Wales and Angela's little empire. It is very disappointing to see all the good sites get destroyed like this. :(

Sincerely, 96.255.93.165 23:45, September 1, 2009 (UTC)

Old logins

Sean,

Our old logins for Lyricwiki.org don't seem to work here. We have to create new logins? How will our new logins be tied to the edits we had made on the old site? It appears my old username is being used by someone else here on Wikia.com.

Thanks,

Cris (jafo)

Because of the move, and new wikia namespace, there are some conflicts. Any usernames that were in conflict had LYRIC-(username) added to their name. Try logging in with the LYRIC- appended to your name.
You can choose to make a new account and we can merge your old contributions to your new one, if that is something you'd like.

…won't let me save this page, because the Amazon search link includes the X---x word. — 6×9 (Talk) 08:46, September 23, 2009 (UTC)

Corrected in our external url blacklist. Might take several hours for cache to clear. Will recheck later to make sure it's fixed. --TOR@Wikia 14:22, September 24, 2009 (UTC)
Yep, works. Thanks! — 6×9 (Talk) 07:13, September 25, 2009 (UTC)

Another one: this time it was triggered by "c:" when I tried to edit C:Real. Afraid someone might wipe out LW by entering "FORMAT C:"?6×9 (Talk) 07:30, October 10, 2009 (UTC)

Hi! The page title blacklist is now editable locally at MediaWiki:Blacklist title list. I've removed the c: restriction; however, the blacklist is cached, so it may take several hours for the issue to resolve itself. Let me know if you continue to experience difficulty this time tomorrow. Also, for the external link blacklist, you can override any blacklist entry locally by editing MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist. You can view the Wikia-wide external link blacklist here. (The format is the same for MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist.) --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 17:58, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

Digital Downloads

Hi Sean,

I've tried to secure your email address to no avail. I work with a company called Hip Digital Media (www.hipdigitalmedia.com). We are licensed by all major labels and a number if indies to distribute MP3 downloads.

We have a technology called the Digital Music Engine which you may be interested in for Wikia. Got time to talk?

My email: brad@hipdigital.com

Thanks

Gil responded via email & copied me.

Google search

User:Sxerks only gets a blank page when (s)he uses the Google search box on the main page. Same for me. (Dunno if it's move-related, so I put it here instead of adding it to the buglist.) — 6×9 (Talk) 09:17, September 13, 2009 (UTC)

Same here, but I think I saw something about this somewhere else  Яєdxx Actions Words 07:45, September 17, 2009 (UTC)
Users occasionally asked (on the help desk & probably elsewhere) why an artist/song they just added didn't show up in Google search. Maybe that's what you saw? This here is something else, there are no results at all. (At least on IE6 and IE8, dunno what browser Sxerks uses.) — 6×9 (Talk) 08:31, September 17, 2009 (UTC)
Temporarily changed to MW search. We're indexing the wiki now to enable Lucene search (Google-like UI and fast), but since the database is hige, it's going to take a while. --TOR@Wikia 13:17, September 17, 2009 (UTC)
