Don't cause Google to index failed queries
Better check LyricWiki talk:REST#returning HTTP 200 OK even if no such song etc. on that page, else Google will think failed queries exist! Jidanni 06:35, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- Eww, Google shouldn't be indexing the API anyway (that would just be duplicates of every page on the site). I've disallowed it in robots.txt now.
- As for the 200s, unfortunately when the REST was created it wasn't very RESTful. If/when we make the next version of the API, it'll actually be RESTful and return the correct response-codes.
- Thanks for pointing out the indexing problem,

Last.fm
Last.fm question: Where would I add this Last.fm's page on Air's Cherry Blossom Girl and how on Air:Cherry_Blossom_Girl ? or is it just for show in case someone wants to look for it? -- -- Sscout talk contribs ♫ 07:13, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I understand the question. That link already appears on Air:Cherry_Blossom_Girl.
- -Sean Colombo (talk|contribs) 10:20, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- It links to the page on lastfm directly. There is no parameter in the song footer for code/number to be entered. ♫♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪ Actions Words 10:32, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Akuma once more...
There's currently a discussion at Template talk:SongFooter about akuma links… It's gotten rather lengthy, but the remaining question boils down to: is it practical/desirable to link to albums instead of artists in the SongFooter? Would make finding the song in question a bit easier, I should think… — 6×9 (Talk) 20:28, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- It would seem to make more sense to link to song in song footer, album in album footer. ♫♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪ Actions Words 20:49, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- There are no song pages on akuma. We can, however, link to the album that the song appears on (and the song title appears in the URL). Most songfooters, though, have a link to the artist page. This is where the dilemma arises. --WillMak050389 20:52, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

The Nomination U2:Bullet the Blue Sky, is not on the asked scheduled date (1st June 2009) it seems that the schedule would be for it to be on June 2nd and i don't know if this is intetional or an error but, as the person who nominated it, and since the nomination U2:Beautiful Day is not with a preffered date, i would really like it for you to put me on schedule for the date i requested, many thanks... 190.86.230.69 20:13, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

spam filter won't let me create a collapsable userbox
Hi, I want to create a collapsable userbox, and I need following text for it to stay collapsed style="display:_ none;"> (without the underscore, apparently I can't even write that here) butthe spam filter won't let me :-/ Chymæra 13:34, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- "display:none" means it won't be displayed at all – I doubt you'd want that :-) Try using
class="collapsible collapsed". — 6×9 (Talk) 14:21, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Akuma
It looks like Akuma has changed the way that they format their URLs. But don't fret! Everything still seems to work. Not only that, but we can add artist or album links in the {{SongFooter}} without needing a full URL. Not only that, Pink Floyd is back up (and I am assuming all of the rest of the broken artists). Just wanted to let you know. Begin celebration now. --WillMak050389 20:24, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

StringFunctions extension
…has now been merged into ParserFunctions. They say it's "designed for MediaWiki 1.16" – I didn't even know 1.15 was stable yet, and they're already designing stuff for 1.16??? Not sure whether/how the performance issues were resolved… The costliest one IIRC was #pad, and we don't really need that one anyway. — 6×9 (Talk) 23:39, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- From what I heard a couple of days ago, 1.15 has been at RC1 for about a week. So it's not quite stable yet, but since it's an RC (release candidate), all new features have to go to the next version. This will be cool when 1.16 comes out to have this :) The bad news of course being that their releases are quarterly, so it'll be three months from 1.15 until 1.16, and I'm not sure how long the 1.15 RC will be out before it's released as stable.
- -Sean Colombo (talk|contribs) 12:25, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- UPDATE: It looks like the RC has been out for 2 weeks, and should be due any day now (I'm on the mailing list for when they have stable releases, so we should know pretty quickly.

Wording of credits to LyricWiki in iPhone app
Sean, let me first say that LyricWiki is a fantastic site that I've discovered only recently. I am currently working on an iPhone app that automatically fetches lyrics from LyricWiki for the currently playing song (using the iPod Library Access API new in iPhone OS 3.0). In the credits of my app, I would like to credit LyricWiki and also add a note about the copyright situation. This is the text that I've come up with:
Lyrics are downloaded from LyricWiki, a free Wiki to collect lyrics for hundreds of thousands of songs. Copyrights of the lyrics remain with their respective authors and/or publishers. The people behind LyricWiki work together with publishers to ensure compensation and the removal of content from the site upon request of the copyright holders.
Do you think this text is a good description or would you like me to change it?
- Ole
- That wording sounds good to me. When you are done, please feel free to add it to the plugins directory so that users can find it more easily.
- Good luck with your app!

New Scrape Project?
I've been working on splitting artists and have noticed that in most cases any album newer than a year or two has no lyrics present here. This prompted me to think that it has been a while since the last time that Uberbot scraped up a batch of lyrics from the rest of the internets. I don't know if you were planning on doing this again, or (if so) when, but it might be a good idea.
King_Nee1114 (talk page • contributions • deletions) 13:06, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- Funny you should say that ;)... been working on another batch for a couple of weeks now. Should be ready to insert it very soon. :D
- -Sean Colombo (talk|contribs) 13:47, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Very cool. I was also thinking... remembering back to when Uberbot added all those pages that had already been deleted for being bad format, or misspelled. Is there any way that the script can skip pages with a deletion history? Is there a way to do that? But either way, this is gonna be good. :D
King_Nee1114 (talk page • contributions • deletions) 14:09, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- That's a really cool idea to skip pages with a deletion history. That's a bit weird though.. I wonder if we'd want to skip all pages with a deletion history. I guess we probably do since we very rarely just delete a page because of not having the lyrics yet... and if we miss out on a few pages, that's not too big of a problem (and would probably be rare). I'll look into adding that.
- The insertion is already started but if I get a list of all deletions, I can just stop the insert in the middle. Also, it's currently working on a comparatively small batch which I think is about 1/3 of the whole thing.

Links to Wikipedia and WikiTravel aren't spam!
Hi Sean,
I just attempted to input the lyrics to "I Love It When..." by Information Society, and the page was blocked because I included links defining "Zona Rosa" on Wikitravel and "Ginza", "Ipanema", and "Hutong" on Wikipedia. I figure many people might not know what those places are and why they're being referenced in the song. Is there some way to include helpful links without the page being flagged as spam?
Thanks, Rose
- Hi Rose,
- Hmm, that's strange & certainly not what we intended. Wikipedia is actually in the URL whitelist so that you don't even have to see solve a CAPTCHA (those pictures of letters/numbers) to add links to it. The spam filter must have been picking up on something else.
- This is probably long overdue, but it seems like I should add some logging into the spam filtering so we can see what's actually being flagged as the problem.
- I'll try to get that written this weekend... in the meantime, if you try to add the lyrics to the page without the links, does that even work? Sometimes the problem is just that the lyrics contain a word that is frequently spam-related (pharmaceuticals especially).
- Thanks for bringing this to my attention,
