[edit] Problem on page save without comment

Been a bit slack with this one, its been happening for a while.

I have Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary turned on. Whenever I save a page without a summary the following error appears

Warning: preg_match() [function.preg-match]: Unknown modifier '-' in /var/www/html/lyricwiki.org/includes/EditPage.php on line 558

Its just a small message at the top of the screen, everything otherwise works.

As I say, its been happening for a while, everything still works, but I've been meaning to look into exactly what the code is doing, but haven't, so I thought I should at least put it on record. With any luck it might just go away next upgrade.

I've had the same problem a couple of times even though my preference is not set to 'Prompt me...'. (And I can't fully read what it says because some parts are hidden due to the tabs at the top.)
Everytime it appears, the work isn't saved, but it either switches to editing the whole page (from editing a section) with my work left as it is before I tried to save, or what I've just typed vanishes (and I can't remember if it went to the whole page edit or just the section edit.)

That line was where the regex is tested. This should have gone away from the many changes to the spam regex. If it didn't, please let me know.

[edit] Spam (again)

It looks like the spammers found a way to get around our spam regex: see [1]. I don't have a fix for the spam regex yet, I am rather busy at the moment, but I thought I would at least let you know.

I think I've patched up the hole. Thank you!
-Sean Colombo 12:54, 11 August 2007 (EDT)
Thanks for taking care of it so quickly.

[edit] Editor's Buttons

I just noticed (when I tried to sign a note on a new user's talk page) that the shortcut buttons above the editor's box don't appear on new pages anymore, but are replaced by the new, yellow "New Artist Template", etc. box. Is there a way to restore them, or do I just have to learn to hit "Show preview" to get the buttons back? If so, I guess it's not really a big deal (as I just now noticed it. Just came as a shock to me, is all. --Kiefer 00:49, 25 April 2007 (EDT)

This appears like it may be a false lead (tested in FireFox 2 and IE7 on Windows)... the buttons just take a longer time to load.
Will contact Kiefer to make sure this is the case.

[edit] Two Small Issues

On Dennis DeYoung I wasn't able to add links to contributing artist's (external) sites - using the standard "wiki" way (e.g. link title). So, I just dropped the links straight into the html and fixed itself. Not really a big issue, but I got a message to report it to you.

On Mary Fahl I can't add a page for the album "The Other Side Of Time (2003)" because a song with the same name (sans date) already exists. I tried to workaround this by creating a "The Other Side Of Time (2003)a" page, but the attempt to rename it (without the a) failed. Any suggestions?

--Megahexe 10:56, 22 September 2007 (EDT)

I've fixed both issues, here and here. Hope that helps Megahexe! --WillMak050389 12:16, 22 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Send to a friend

The yellow background is a little distracting, as well as nonuniform according to the rest of the page design. I think the emboldened link and icon make it noticeable enough .. It could be changed to the same gray as an inactive tab (#fbfbfb), or a pastel blue/purple a la the linktext? I don't mean to nitpick, but it has stuck out to me since my first visit.. Very clean and nice otherwise. Only a thought, thanks. Oboro 08:54, 20 September 2007 (EDT)

Thanks for the feedback. I tried it out with some grays and it made the page look kind of drab. I will definitely keep it in mind that you find the color annoying though, and if I keep hearing about this, then I'll spend more time looking into other colors (maybe a faded blue?).
Thanks again,

[edit] Various Things

I know what it's like getting behind on things (I just finished the first round of tests this semester), but if you need any help, please let me know and I will do what I can. I took the liberty to sort the pending issues into categories at the top of the page.

I do have a something specific to discuss, however. I have been watching Kingnee1114lyrics (talkcontribs) for a while and think that he has what it takes to be an admin. The final decision is of course up to you. The only concern that I have is that he will, like several of the other admins, stop contributing entirely after a while, which is why I have waited for as long as I have to suggest this and am still a little hesitant.

Again, I will do whatever I can to help out reduce the load on you.

- teknomunk (talk,E,?) 15:48, 4 October 2007 (EDT)

For what its worth, I was just about to suggest this too. I've noticed his/her contributions and that he/she has been here quite a while. --WillMak050389 19:00, 4 October 2007 (EDT)
As one of Admins that seemed to have stopped contributing, I have been more than busy here at work, but I ry to at least log in and see what's new. I think I will at least be able to do some stuff once or twice a week. That said, Kingnee1114lyrics (talkcontribs) definitely seems to have the time and comfort level to be an Admin. Plus i won't be bottom on the totem pole anymore :-) --Jeff Saul (T-C-E) 12:22, 5 October 2007 (EDT)
Kingnee1114lyrics does look like a good candidate. He or she has certainly has made a wide variety of contributions over the past 3 months. Dependable and capable. Jeff! I've been wondering where you've been! My philosophy is, maybe you need to work, but who needs sleep? :- ] --Kiefer <img src="/images/5/58/KieferE.jpg" alt="Esperanza" /> <img src="/images/f/f9/KieferTalk.jpg" alt="Talk!" /> 13:29, 5 October 2007 (EDT)
Thanks for the advice guys... Kingnee is an admin now :)
Also, thanks for all the help you guys all do... I'd be drowning without you!

[edit] Javascript Error

I can't help with this one as I don't have IE: LyricWiki_talk:Community_Portal/Problems/Web_Site_Support#JavaScript_Error_on_pages
- teknomunk (talk,E,?) 12:50, 8 September 2007 (EDT)

Thanks for forwarding this to me. It was just a small commenting issue (some wiki-text was getting passed into the JS file). Fixed now.

[edit] Adminship

Holy...I don't know what to say! I would be honored. Thanks so much.
- Kingnee1114lyrics 16:15, 6 October 2007 (EDT)

Awesome. Should I do anything different than what I am doing now?
- Kingnee1114lyrics 16:36, 6 October 2007 (EDT)

See convo on Kingnee's talk

[edit] SOAP api

The soap api is returning wrong xml declaration again. At the top of the file it now says <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> That should be <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> Since that is what is being returned. Remiss 07:14, 23 June 2007 (EDT)

Fixed (a while ago... I just forgot to put a message here).

[edit] More soap stuff

Hi. I seem to have problems retrieving songs with number in the title. e.g. Bullet For My Valentine - Room 409 Seems to become Room__%3C9 for some reason (tested with soapclient.com and my client). Have I done something wrong or is there some sort of problem with soap api? On further inspection it only seem to apply to some numbers.. This is the url returned from the above mentioned song: http://lyricwiki.org/index.php?title=Bullet_For_My_Valentine:Room__%3C9&action=edit Remiss 07:27, 9 June 2007 (EDT)

I've tested the song in question and it works now. I'm fairly sure that this was caused by a typo that was in the SOAP for a while. This should have been fixed by the same fix.
Thanks for reporting this (I think this was the report that made me fix it, but it was a looong time ago, so I can't remember).
