Retired news reporter. I covered the city hall and province beats for a daily broadsheet newspaper in the B.C. Interior. I LOVE the practice of journalism - the speed, the urgency to meet deadline, the adrenaline rush when you finally track down that one source who completes your story. It's like a drug! News journalism is the way my literary hero, Ernest Hemingway, honed his too-good-to-be-true writing skills. I dream of one day writing just one PERFECT sentence, as good as Hem's stuff.

My most beloved place on Earth is Mexico. I have wintered there annually for many years. I speak fluent Spanish, the language learned so long ago formally in high school, and later by immersion when touring Mexico as a hitch-hiking hippie. Now that I am in full retirement, I intend to acquire a "snowbird" home on the Mexican Riviera and plant myself there on a more fulltime basis.
There is no more ancient, storied and exotic country in the Western Hemisphere than my beloved Mexico. There is no other multi-ethnic native population so directly linked by blood to peoples of great mysteries and and amazing powers, the Maya and the Aztec.
And for all of that, I worship the sun, sand and blue blue seas of the Mexican east coast. I tan well. I snorkel. I specialize in DOING NOTHING!
