London calling to the faraway towns
Now that war is declared - and battle come down1
London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, all you boys and girls2
London calling, now don't look to us
All that phony Beatlemania has bitten the dust3
London calling, see we ain't got no swing
'cept for the ring of that truncheon thing

The ice age is coming the sun's zooming in
Meltdown expected and the wheat is growing thin
Engines stop running, but I have no fear4
Cos London is drowning - and I live by the river5

London calling to the imitation zone
Forget it brother an' go it alone6
London calling to the zombies of death
Quit holding out - and take another breath7
London calling - and I don't wanna shout
But when we were talking - I saw you nodding out8
London calling, see we ain't got no highs
Except for that one with the yellowy eyes

The ice age is coming the sun's zooming in
Engines stop running and the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear
Cos London is drowning - and I live by the river9

The ice age is coming the sun's zooming in
Engines stop running and the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear
Cos London is drowning - and I live by the river9

Now get this.....9

London calling, yeah, I was there, too
An' you know what they said? Well, some of it was true!
London calling at the top of the dial
After all this, won't you give me a smile? 10

London calling9

I never felt so much a-like.....9

NotesEdit

  1. . On the actual record, Joe Strummer sings this as "Now war is declared"
  2. . On the record, Joe omits the "all"
  3. . On the actual record, Joe sings "Phony Beatlemania..."
  4. . The official lyrics use a mixture of lyrics: "Meltdown expected and the wheat is growing thin/A nuclear error...", instead of what Joe actually sings. (See Note 9)
  5. . The official lyrics omit the "cos" (or "'cause" in US English)
  6. . On the actual record, Joe sings this as "Forget it brother you can go it alone"
  7. . On the actual record, Joe sings this as "Quit holding out - and draw another breath"
  8. . On the actual record, Joe sings this line as "But while we were talking...."
  9. . The 2nd chorus is omitted, as are the adlibs, in the official lyrics. (The second chorus changes lines here, but in the official lyrics [as they appear in the gatefold], the lyrics simply read "The ice age.....". Here, Joe also debuts the "nuclear error" line)
  10. . On the actual record, Joe sings this as "An' after all this..."
