Page Title or Song Title?
Edit
Because most of the SOTD process is automatic (done by ÜberBot), this template and how it formats the information it gathers basically determines how SOTD looks on the main page. On the main page, the SOTD title isn't really a song title, it's a page name (Artist:Song). Shouldn't it be something like "Song by Artist"? Album of the Week is listed this way, and it makes sense that Song of the Day should be too, considering there's little difference. For editors, using a page title probably isn't offputting, but it may be for more casual users. This SOTD nomination template asks for "artist" and "title" separately, so it shouldn't be hard to change.
This line:
Song: {Artist}:{Song}<br/>
should be
Song: {Song} by {Artist}<br/>
This shouldn't affect how users are asked to nominate a song. I don't know if this will affect how ÜberBot processes the songs, and since it's on the main page, I didn't want to just start making edits. ♠team a ‹talk•ctrb› 00:44, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, I don't recall this template at all... the thing is: it's not used. ÜberBot pulls the wikitext itself, not the resulting page, so if someone were to use the template, he wouldn't get the generated code, he'd get the code which was calling the template.
- That being said, I still really like the idea of "Song Name" by "Artist". It makes much more sense now than the current format (SOTD was originally crammed in the narrower right-hand column, so that's probably why we started out with the current format). There will have to be a little parsing done to split up the artist and song... either that or we could switch the whole thing over to using this template. I'll put it on my "todo" list, but it'll probably get pushed to the backburner for a while until I get all of the new servers stable... if I forget for a while, please remind me. This was a great idea, team a :)
- Thanks!

- I know you have a lot going on - I wouldn't have bothered you if I didn't think it would only take a quick look. I think this template is only used on Song Of The Day by the people nominating the songs, and even then, they substitute the template, so the template itself never appears on any pages. It seems to me that you manually pull songs from Song Of The Day and put them on the queue? If so, then you might not even notice that it's ever used. Would you mind if they started appearing in the "Song by Artist" format? ♠team a ‹talk•ctrb› 02:24, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- Sounds like a good idea. I also don't think it will affect UberBot or have any other unwanted side effects. I have changed the display of tomorrows SotD manually, so we can check that it all works out. If so, we can update the template and all the songs currently in the queue. --Mischko

- Thanks. I think this template was designed just for substitution anyway, and the SOTD page seems to be working ♠team a ‹talk•ctrb› 03:55, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, I forgot to check on it. It looks like it works OK, except that the artist doesn't show up anymore in the list (see November 1 SotD). If consensus is that this is acceptable, I will change the template. Voting is open? :) --Mischko

- I should have looked more carefully (I think I was just relieved by the lack of the ":") I am proposing that it would look like this (on LyricWiki talk:Song of the Day):
Song:House Of The Rising Sun by The Animals
The code I posted above will do that, so the artist should appear on the main page and in the archive. Sorry I didn't catch that! ♠team a ‹talk•ctrb› 02:11, 4 November 2008 (UTC)-

Additional Notes
Edit
I've removed this parameter, it is creating an extraneous line of code when subst'ed (as it should be subst'ed). See User_talk:RainbowDragon/Archive/December_2008#Song_Of_The_Day_Nominations. If anyone needs to make an additional note, they can just add: Notes: Additional notes here<br/> themselves. This is long overdue, as I've noticed it quite a while ago. Hope no one is deeply affected by this... --WillMak050389 23:07, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
