The Beatles:A Hard Day's Night (1964) was the Album of the Week from
24 May 2010 to 30 May 2010.
The soundtrack to The Beatles' first feature film was their first album to feature entirely original compositions. Opening with the distinctive open chord of "A Hard Day's Night" (Music video on YouTube), I love the whole album. My favorite songs are "I'm Happy Just to Dance With You" (Music video on YouTube), "I Should Have Known Better" (Music video on YouTube), and "Can't Buy Me Love" (Music video on YouTube), the latter of which ended side one. Side two consists of songs the band didn't include in the film, but also didn't want to waste the time they spent recording them. The album reached #1 on the Billboard album chart, and ironically, kept the band's next American release, Something New, at #2 for nine weeks, even though the two albums had eight tracks in common. All in all, it's a superb album from the Beatles' catalogue. --Cubs Fan
