Question
Edit
A recent edit changed all "whiskey and rye" passages to "whiskey in rye". The editor gave this explanation in the edit summary: "changed "whiskey and rye" to "whiskey in rye" because analysis of the song shows that McLean drank whiskey with his friends in a nearby town called rie. or rye. cant remeber. peace out. :)". Can anyone confirm this? I always thought it way "whiskey and rye". --WillMak050389 22:21, 17 January 2008 (EST)
- It's "whiskey and rye". Reference: Wikipedia or here, among others. The problem is that this site poses that the lyrics might actually be "whiskey in Rye." This, however, is conjecture. Kiefer talk contribs admin 03:22, 18 January 2008 (EST)
- I changed it back, because even if he was referring to a town called Rye, the lyrics are not meant to be taken literally--it would be a play on words, if anything. For the same reasons, I changed "the Levy" (which supposedly refers to a bar of the same name) to "the levee". -- LastUserNameEver 10:45, 28 January 2008 (EST)
