Merge and Note
Edit
First, if a tag that asks for discussion is placed on a page, why is it orphaned? It seems to me only fair for the person who asks for a discussion should start the discussion but that could just be me. (I used to run across this sort of thing very often at WP. It is one of the reasons that I no longer spend much time there.)
Second, obviously one of the pages needs to be merged into the other, but which one? Kiefer left a note buried between the Artist Template and the Hometown Template that refers to the WP article on the accent aigu, the French portion of which is quoted below:
French. Used only on é. It is known as accent aigu, and distinguishes é [e] from è, ê [ɛ], and e [ə]. Unlike other Romance languages, the accent marks rarely imply stress in French as the stress is almost always on the last syllable of each word.
That does not address the issue of whether the accent is retained over a capitalized letter although I suspect that, unlike Spanish, it is.
No matter which way the merge goes, I think identical pages with redirects need to be made for the other spelling
By the way, the artist died before "albums" existed so all the available recording of the songs are on compilations. I would remove the "Split" tag but I don't know how to keep it from being reapplied.

- The Wikipedia article uses (Édith Piaf), IMDB uses Édith, etc., so Édith Piaf should be the correct page title. Occasionally, I notice, the accent isn't used, but perhaps that's just laziness on the typesetter or writer's part?
- As for the merge templates: I'm not sure why Redxx placed it on this page. I know that at one time the administrator tool "Batch Move" automatically placed merge templates when a move conflict took place (originally the page would just be moved over the other and a redirect placed on the "incorrect" page, and the change in performance wasn't widely know for quite a while). As it was only placed on the one page, I'm guessing that she placed it there manually, but obviously I don't know. So quite often, you'll find pages with the templates that don't have a discussion started. Honestly, (I'll go more in depth about the reasons below) discussions on the site don't normally go anywhere on individual artist, album, & song pages.
- As for the templates themselves: There really isn't much use for them here as there is as Wikipedia. I can see them being used when a group had a different name early in their career and may have had an independent release or two under their "old" name. Discussion might be good to decide whether to include those releases under their "new", better-known name, or under that original name. The problem is that there aren't really enough regular editors that are likely to see such a call for discussion for it to do much good. It would be nice if we had a dozen or so users that were interested in Édith Piaf (or whoever) enough to have a discussion about such things. We basically go with the "Be Bold" aspect of Wikipedia and assume that such moves are done with an intention of improving the site. (Those who attempt to do damage are pretty easy to spot, for the most part.) If there is a problem discovered later with the move, then it'll get moved back. If editors are interested in the artist enough to have placed that page on their watchlist, then a discussion can begin. This has taken place on more "popular" artist pages in the past.
- As for the note about the letter: that was for a person that kept reverting the fLetter to a plain "E", which it isn't. An accented character is different than an unaccented character. That's why it was there. Kiefer talk contribs admin 01:23, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
How about I let Redxx know that a discussion was held, you favored the merge and I didn't much care, and she should probably go ahead and do it? She may have forgotten that she put it here.

I should have realized that you two would take care of things. Very nice!

- Hee hee..sorry if I caused any problems here. As Kiefer knows "merging" is not one of my many talents (but I am working on it http://www.xs4all.nl/~ernstmul/images/msn60/smile009.gif) And yes I did put the merge template on the page. I did this to alert other editors that this was what needed to be done because I didn't have time to devote to doing this when I became aware of it. However the wording to "discuss" is just what is built into the template. I could not avoid this. Btw it was Kiefer and Echo who took care of this Jim (thanks guys), not me. I've only just come to see it on my watchlist. Apologies once again for any confusion caused. ♫♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪ Actions Words 12:38, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

- Rfl glad you noticed ;) Yes plus I added free download links (legal) and credits for mostly all songs too. In fact I started on the page several hours ago and only just stopped. I'm Piafed out! ♫♫Яєdxx ♪♫♪♫♪ Actions Words 00:23, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
