deadmau5 is the only artist that I can call a "favourite artist of mine". Usually I only like specific songs by diverse artists, but deadmau5 aka. Joel Zimmerman is all different. I've listened to what feels like a hundred different songs, and still I discover songs I didn't know by now. I remember how got to know deadmau5 as Sean (the founder of LyricWiki) himself shared a link to This Is The Hook with me in the chat. This can be seen as the moment when my musical preference for (progressive) house music developed.
The name deadmau5 is pronounced "deadmouse" and originates from an occasion that used to happen when he wasn't famous yet: Joel opened his PC tower and found a dead mouse in it. He told the story in IRC, and from then on was always referred to as "the dead mouse guy". As he needed a new nick name, and "deadmouse" wasn't possible because IRC only accepts 8 letters, he chose "deadmau5". While we're at animals, deadmau5 is also known for his cat Meowingtons, and several tracks, album, even a whole tour name has been dedicated to him.
Many people think that deadmau5 is a typical 4/4 pounder progressive house artist, but actually he's nothing like that. In fact it's hard to find any attribute for music where you cannot find any matching song to. Be it pounding (Cat On A Leash), unconventional (Unspecial Effects), uptempo (Orange File) or no (I Forget) beat, typical (Aural Psynapse), ambient (Jaded (Ambient Mix)) or bass driven (Where My Keys) style, beautiful (15 Minutes), funny (Edit Your Friends), silent (Creep) or loud (Hey Baby) music, or even genres like classical music (American Slushie) or the modern Dubstep (Derp) – deadmau5 has it all in his own way! He's best known for his tracks Ghosts N Stuff, which has been featured in several TV shows, and Strobe.
Sometimes Joel uploads funny videos to his YouTube channel, funny ones like Suicide a la mau5 as well as show-off ones: i normally do this on sundays. Even his cat Meowingtons is featured in many videos. His first video deadmau5 vs. xone 3d shows him playing with a turntable, although he always emphasizes that he's not a DJ but a producer.
Unfortunately I never had the chance of attending a deadmau5 concert/live show, although I imagine this to be extremely cool (like this). So long, I'll stick with replaying his songs over and over again.
Song: "One More Cup Of Coffee" by The White Stripes Nominated by:Parsprototo Date: May 26, 2013 Reason: A great cover of a great song by Bob Dylan. Jack gives the song his own special sound, making it a lot darker than the original tune. I also like the poor recording compared to other studio-mastered songs especially of the late 90s. The live-version on "under nova scotian lights" is also quite good, much more powerful. So, one more cup of coffee before I go, enjoy this cover. Video:Music video on YouTube
