We are in no way affiliated with Wikia or these wikis except that we're spotlighting each other.
The "spotlight" area is a friendly link to any of several Wikia wikis. Since wiki users tend to be interested in other wikis, we are just adding these spotlights in hopes that users will find them interesting. Similarly, they will be adding us to their normal "Spotlight" rotation. No money is changing hands in this deal and none of the spotlights are animated (so that they don't get annoying).
We have been "friends" with Wikia for quite some time. Together we have opened the source to several extensions, shared code, fought off spammers, and discussed the challenges of scaling MediaWiki in a cost-effective way. We've exchanged tips over time with no less than a half-dozen Wikians from a co-founder to the CEO, the VP of Engineering, and several engineers. We have no official or contractual relationship with Wikia.
