About SOTD
The Song of the Day (SotD) is a fun way to get exposed to some new music, or maybe learn more about a song you already know.
The way it works is this:
Anyone can nominate a song on the Song of the Day special page. Once approved, the nominations are then moved to the queue. One nomination is then selected each day from the list of songs in the queue and displayed on the LyricWiki Main Page as "Sotd". The nifty badge on the right is also added to the song's page.
The successful nominee isn't forgotten about either. Providing they are registered (and don't use an alias when submitting their nomination) they receive notification that their song has won "Song of the Day". Also, that their name has now been added to the list of SOTD Winners.
After the day is over, the entry is archived. The entry is also displayed on this page until the middle of the following month.
So now you know how it works, why not head on over to the Song of the Day special page and nominate a song today!
And when you've done that, how about nominating an Album of the Week?
Recent Songs of the Day
July 2012
August 07, 2012: Every Way That I Can by Sertab Erener
- Nominated by Chris.
- Day two of the LyricWiki Eurovision Song Contest week! After Marie N had won the event in 2002 for Latvia, the location in 2003 is Riga. Amongst all artists for 26 different nations is Sertab Erener from Turkey. Her song "Every Way That I Can" mixes rhythmic elements of the traditional Turkish music, with the Western European pop music styles. With a great voice she sung and rapped Turkey to the victory. I can recommend the music video, the live performance from the show - definitely no playback, I promise.

August 06, 2012: I Wanna by Marie N
- Nominated by Chris.
- Welcome to the LyricWiki Eurovision Song Contest week! For the next 7 days, LyricWiki will present you the winners of this internetional music event as Songs of the Day. The Eurovision Song Contenst, formerly Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson, is an annual music event taking place in the country of last year's winner. During the upcoming week you will get to know a lot of European music, which includes a large bandwidth from pop to heavy metal - all as winners of the same contest, only different years. We start our journey in Estonia, 2002; Marija Naumova, better known by her international stage name Marie N performs the Latvian entry, a Pop Disco song called "I Wanna" (not to be confused with the No Angels song "Daylight in Your Eyes", which also has slight lyrical similarities in the refrain). But not it's time to enjoy the music, enjoy the live performance on stage (video).

August 05, 2012: Magic by Pilot
- Nominated by Chris.
- Magic is one of those songs you will always recognize as soon as you listen to them once. Piano, bass, lead guitar and drums plus easy lyrics in a sing-along-friendly tune – the essential ingredients for a successful song. The song released 1974 on "From the Album of the Same Name" was covered in 2009 by Disney's superstar Selena Gomez.

August 04, 2012: The Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber
- Nominated by Cubs Fan.
- Described as a rock song invading an opera house, the title track of Broadway's longest-running show is one of, if not the, most popular songs from Webber's musical. Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum did a good job performing the song in the 2004 feature film, but I don't think anyone can best the original version by Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford.

August 03, 2012: Rhymin & Stealin by Beastie Boys
- Nominated by Cubs Fan.
- Sampling the drum beat from "When the Levee Breaks", the guitar riff from "Sweet Leaf", and a line from the chorus of "I Fought the Law", the first track from the Beastie Boys' debut album paints just a small picture of who they became, but it's a great song any way you look at it.

August 02, 2012: Love is Like Oxygen by Sweet
- Nominated by Cubs Fan.
- I'd never considered Sweet a hard rock band before, but the perception changed upon hearing this song. It's not as bubblegum pop as songs like "Ballroom Blitz", but it's a great song from Sweet's catalog.

August 01, 2012: Queens of Noise by The Runaways
- Nominated by Cubs Fan.
- Supported by Sandy West's pounding drum beat and Joan Jett's driving guitar, it's one of my favorite Runaways songs, and it kicks off their sophomore album with a bang.

July 28, 2012: Seed by KoRn
- Nominated by 24.239.233.7.
- This song has such a good meaning to it. Jon, the singer, is basically jealous because his son gets to live a normal life (Jon was raped by his mother as a child). His son thinks his father is a freak for singing about his fucked up past.

July 17, 2012: Cool, Cool, Considerate Men by Sherman Edwards
- Nominated by Cubs Fan.
- Another of 1776's showstoppers, it's one of my favorite numbers from the musical. And while I enjoy Donald Madden's version in the film and Michael Cumpsty's version in the 1997 revival, Paul Hecht's performance is just perfectly theatrical.

- Nominated by Thatgermanguy.

July 04, 2012: Molasses To Rum by Sherman Edwards
- Nominated by Cubs Fan.
- One of 1776's showstoppers, it's probably the most powerful song from the play. Sung by Edward Rutledge, decrying the hypocrisy of the Northern states calling for the abolition of slavery while simultaneously profiting from the slave trade, it packs a heck of punch. Clifford David ('69) and Gregg Edelman's ('97) versions are good, but John Cullum's version in the movie is my favorite.
