October 31, 2009: "Children of the Grave" by Black Sabbath

Exploring similar themes as "War Pigs" and "Electric Funeral", this is probably my favorite song from Master Of Reality. With the creepy opening bass line and the driving guitar riff, it's hard not to like. YouTube Music video on YouTube

October 29, 2009: "Within You Without You" by The Beatles

  • Nominated by: Sgt Walrus
The perfect fusion of classical with Indian music. Featuring as track 8 on the legendary Beatles album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, this George-only track talks about Hinduism and life.
"...it's all within yourself, no one else can make you change." Enjoy. YouTube Music video on YouTube

October 28, 2009: "Take the Money and Run" by Steve Miller Band

This is one of my favorite classic rock sing-alongs. It's a classic any which way you look at it. YouTube Music video on YouTube

October 27, 2009: "Strawberry Swing" by Coldplay

The fifth single from the band's fourth album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, this is quite unlikely a song for Coldplay. It has a nostalgic atmosphere and to my mind it brings images of a perfect spring day in childhood. The guitar effects are really unique and have a curious African or tribal feel to them. October 16, 2009: "Seize The Night" by Meat Loaf

Meat Loaf may not be too famous in the States, but that is unfortunate in the extreme. By far one of the most talented American artists of all time, the albums of Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell trilogy earned him a Grammy Award and sold more than 40 million copies, and after 30 years it still sells an estimated 200,000 copies annually. The song "Seize the Night" is both beautiful and powerful. With sweeping orchestral music and amazing guitar solos. Not to mention the occasional Latin chant in the background. It reveals a whole new side to the artist's talent, and in my opinion it deserves to be song of the day. Carpe Noctem! YouTube Music video on YouTube

October 15, 2009: "September" by Earth, Wind & Fire

A terrific R&B/pop number from one of the seminal soul/funk bands of the 1970s. YouTube Music video on YouTube

October 14, 2009: "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" by The Beatles

  • Nominated by: Zeromaster
The inspiration for The Beatles song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" died on Monday, 21st September 2009, aged 46, after a long, hard battle with Lupus. John Lennon got the idea for the song when his then four year old son Julian brought home a picture he drew at nursery school of his new friend Lucy Vodden. He told his father it was "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". This inspired Lennon enough to write the song. YouTube Music video on YouTube

October 13, 2009: "How Soon Is Now?" by Love Spit Love

Love Spit Love's cover of the Smiths song is recognizable to TV fans as the theme song of the supernatural drama series which premiered on October 7 1998, Charmed. I'd never really heard of the band before, but I really like this song. YouTube Music video on YouTube

October 12, 2009: "Daniel" by Bat For Lashes

I nominated this song because it seems to call out to my soul. It reminds me of everything I loved, and the person I loved. It's the bittersweet feeling of a love lost, but not really because you still feel that person; and your heart can't help but to cry out their name. I hope this will be picked to be SOTD on September 27th, because this is the anniversary of a day I changed in a way I can't explain. It is also the day I lost my 'Daniel'. I believe anyone can connect with such a song. If your curious it can be heard here: YouTube Music video on YouTube

October 11, 2009: "Марсианские Глаза" by t.A.T.u.

t.A.T.u. has inspired me to do more than imagined with their melodious voices and intoxicated beats. This song would be the most amazing gift for my birthday. GoEar Audio on GoEar

October 10, 2009: "Let Down" by Radiohead

For two years I listened to this song without understanding one word of it's lyrics except for it's chorus. Imagine that! Two years of listening to the same song over and over again and not knowing what it means... That's quite the agony for me. But, the sheer beauty of the song was enough to win my heart over. "Let Down" is simply Radiohead's best song. It feels quite multi-layered. The guitar in the background overshadows the drums, but at the same time the drums overshadow the guitars. Each instrument is it's own separate entity but at the same time it isn't. Every note supports each other. The song has been brilliantly mixed. I would even call it Radiohead's magnum opus. The song's lyrics refer to the alienation and emptiness of life in modern society. It gives you the image of several alcoholics simply hanging on to their lives by clinging on to their bottles. The song gives a sense of misery but at the same time is uplifting. No matter how many reasons I give, they won't be enough. So, I urge you to listen to the song while I pray that the song be honoured! YouTube Music video on YouTube

October 8, 2009: "Frontier Psychiatrist" by The Avalanches

This song is all kinds of awesome. It has some weird lyrics, an even weirder music video and on top of that it's also a pretty good tune. Along with "Since I Left You", this might be their most recognizable song, which isn't that hard since they only released one album. So can you think of anything that talks, other than a person? October 6, 2009: "Fly Like An Eagle" by Steve Miller Band

I'm not the biggest Steve Miller fan, but he has produced some great music. The title track of Miller's biggest selling album fell just shy of #1, but I'm not surprised it reached the Top 5. YouTube Music video on YouTube

October 4, 2009: "Work It" by Missy Elliott

This song is one of Missy's greatest and is a fantastic chart topper and dance hit. The music video for this song also transformed the way music videos are today. YouTube Music video on YouTube

October 1, 2009: "The Good Life" by Weezer

  • Nominated by: Kurt
I like how the lyrics portray Rivers as an outsider who views himself and his views as the norm, instead of the world being the norm. GoEar Audio on GoEar
