- August 31, 2009: Metallica:The Unforgiven nominated by 6metal6.
- One of my favourite songs by Metallica, tho it is considered one of their "softer" songs, it never disappoints me with great story telling by James Hetfield. This track is featured on their fifth album Metallica (the black album). Listen to immediately! Search for audio on Playlist.com
- August 30, 2009: The Mighty Mighty Bosstones:The Impression That I Get nominated by 76.27.73.194.
- A sweet song that combines nice guitar work and beat with that "listen to me" trumpet, it calls attention to itself as a song and also as one of my faves. This song is one whose lyrics make you start to, if even for a moment, look to oneself. It's also one that all can associate with on some level, as all have at one time "been close to tragedy" and "had the odds stacked up so high you need a strength most don't possess." A memorable song that I first heard as a kid in the Digimon movie. I still remember its unique beat and lyrics to this day.

- August 29, 2009: Michael Jackson:Earth Song nominated by a fan.
- This is the greatest song of all time. It deals with us making the earth suffer and having to save it. It is saying we are irresponsible, and aren't giving a darn about it. The song is about what's going on in the world. The song's about love, peace, and misunderstanding. Love: We need to love Planet Earth. It is our home, and is the only place to live. Peace: Respect the Earth. It deserves respect. You should be thanking the Earth. Misunderstanding: We don't know that we have made the Earth a worse place to live. We must make it better, so there is no ice caps melting, endangered animals becoming extinct, deforestation, or innocent people (specifically children) dying as a result of war. Michael Jackson especially did many things for children. "Earth Song" is the National Anthem of all "Earth Supporters". It is my favorite song from my favorite singer-songwriter. This song also has the best lyrics of any song in the world. It is also his highest charting single in the U.S and achieved #1 in many countries throughout the world, including in the UK where it was the 1995 Christmas #1. I pray and mourn for Michael Jackson, who sadly died on the 25th of June, 2009. He will always be a musical legend and a man of God. Rest In Peace, Michael Jackson. You will be remembered forever. By everybody.

- August 27, 2009: Queens Of The Stone Age:Go With The Flow nominated by a fan.
- One of the many songs featuring Dave Grohl, this deserves to be nominated. It's supported by a continuous heavy riff featuring almost no pauses which makes it an extremely catchy and addicting tune. Likewise, the music video, which won the MTV Video Music Award in 2003 for Best Special Effects and was also nominated for Best Art Direction, is stylised and very memorable.

- August 26, 2009: REO Speedwagon:Can't Fight This Feeling nominated by Alice2.
- This song is just beautiful. I first learned of its existence through the recent Horton Hears a Who! movie, but no recording can compare to the original. It's no shock that it hit number one on the charts. "'Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore..."

- August 25, 2009: Meat Loaf:Bat Out Of Hell nominated by springheel.
- "Then like a sinner before the gates of heaven I'll come crawling on back to you." Is there really a song that encapsulates teenage rebellion, desperation, and burning love any more thoroughly than "Bat Out Of Hell"? Sometimes a song is worth a thousand sonnets. Meat Loaf and "Bat Out Of Hell" have a lot more to say about love than Shakespeare -- and the last line of the chorus says it all.

- August 24, 2009: Nevio Passaro:Non Ti Aspettavo (Libertà) nominated by AsterixObelix.
- Gabriella Cilmi and Nevio make a perfect voice duet. The lyrics are beautiful and the song feels like summer. I love this song.

- August 22, 2009: Bob Seger:Katmandu nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- With its piano-heavy intro, it's a classic Bob Seger song from Beautiful Loser. While it just barely missed the Top 40, I'm surprised it charted as high as it did.

- August 21, 2009: The Darkness:I Believe In A Thing Called Love nominated by ROFLer.
- What can't be said about this song? Awesome? Insane? Stupidly awesome? Justin Hawkins' vocals are INCREDIBLE. He is hands down the best male singer I've heard in a long time. The Darkness are a one-hit wonder in the U.S., but they were massive in England until they broke up in 2006.

- August 20, 2009: Joan Jett And The Blackhearts:I Love Rock N' Roll nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- After leaving The Runaways, Joan Jett found a quick #1 hit with this cover of the Arrows song. It's one of the true '80s classics.

- This song was nominated to pay tribute to band member LeRoi Moore who died in an ATV accident one year ago (August 19, 2008).
- August 18, 2009: Counting Crows:Omaha nominated by the billness.
- This song has so many messages intertwined in it. Its depth must truly be experienced as explaining it would merely fall short. All of these stories have one common thread, love is what matters.

- August 17, 2009: Atreyu:Doomsday nominated by spoonman93.
- This song has it all, mind melting guitar, adrenaline raising verses, a melodic chorus, and creepy but catchy lyrics. It's an all around awesome song from a great band!http://lyricwiki.org/images/6/6b/Dailymotion.gif Music video on Dailymotion
- August 16, 2009: Mountain:For Yasgur's Farm nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- This simple, sweet melody by Mountain is a far cry from their hard rock style, but it's a beautiful ode to the man without whom Woodstock might never have happened.

- August 15, 2009: Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young:Woodstock nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- I'd like to nominate this song in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock Festival. Written by Joni Mitchell, CSNY covered it at the Festival itself, and it soon became a smash hit, as well as a staple of the band's catalogue.

- I first discovered this song after Mick Foley mentioned it in his autobiography Have a Nice Day!, and it's become one of my favorite Blackfoot songs. Its transition from somber Southern rock to hard rock and back is incredibly moving.

- Recently at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, this is a very fun song to listen to, and was performed on American Idol on April 9, 2009. Greatest song in a while, and 5 stars in my book.

- Such a catchy song from the French singer Yelle. She's best known for "Je Veux Te Voir", but this song is well worth listening to as well. Still her style, but very different.

- August 10, 2009: Bob Seger:Like A Rock nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- Famous for its use in Chevrolet truck commercials in the 1990s, it's one of Bob Seger's most popular songs from 1986. At almost six minutes long, I'm surprised it broke into the Top 20.

- August 09, 2009: Colosseum:I Can't Live Without You nominated by Tody G..
- One of the songs of a band so unheard of, yet produced 5 albums in the space of 2 years. Their genre is described as jazz-rock. Isn't their best song, but in my opinion the best to start with listening to them.
- August 08, 2009: Joe Cocker:Feelin' Alright nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- Quickly overshadowing the original version by Traffic, it was Joe Cocker's fifth Top 40 hit. Artie Butler's piano playing supports the song perfectly.

- August 07, 2009: Five For Fighting:If God Made You nominated by Superman Jr.

- Donnie Van Zant isn't as famous as his brother Ronnie was, but that didn't stop 38 Special from scoring this Top 30 hit in 1981. This is one of the best Southern rock songs from the decade, without a doubt.

- August 05, 2009: Panic At The Disco:That Green Gentleman nominated by applepanic.
- Even though Panic At The Disco's second album, Pretty. Odd. did not receive as much radio time as their first, this song, from the second album, is absolutely stellar. It speaks of change, happiness, and love in a kind of way that is positive, and you don't find that very much among younger artists these days. Also, Panic at the Disco is just a great band in general because they love their fans.

- August 04, 2009: Kiss:Beth nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- Originally released as the "B" side to "Detroit Rock City", it shocked the entire Kiss Army when "Beth" became the more popular single. While it's not a typical hard-rocking Kiss song, it remains only one of two gold-selling singles for the band, and was the first of two Top 10 hits.

- This song is from Toto's last album Falling In Between. It is a beautiful emotional song dealing with poverty. Whereas the verses are sung by guitarist Steve Lukather, the chorus and the final part feature former lead singer Joseph Williams, whose outstanding performance and voice provide the special something to an already great song.
