- April 30, 2009: Def Leppard:Rock Of Ages nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- I've never been a big glam rock fan before, but this song by Def Leppard has certainly piqued my interest.

- April 29, 2009: The J. Geils Band:Love Stinks nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- The nomination of "Centerfold" reminded me of this other popular J. Geils Band hit. It's hard to believe the song is almost 30 years old, but it remains as classic now as it did then.

- April 28, 2009: Paramore:Decode nominated by Izuka.
- A great song with a nice beat, and the sound of the instruments blend well with the voice of vocalist Hayley Williams. Many will listen to this time and time again. For myself, I like the catchy stop in the short bridge after the first chorus. The guitar solo is also not bad.

- April 27, 2009: The J. Geils Band:Centerfold nominated by 76.27.73.194.
- A song with a catchy beat, reminiscent of Irish or Scottish native music, and a risqué subject, it has no choice BUT to be a song close to our hearts. To find your high school sweetheart in the center of Playboy is both a nightmare and wet dream. Truly a song that won't make your "blood run cold." The song also reached #1 in the United States in February 1982.

- April 26, 2009: The Moody Blues:Nights In White Satin nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- Written by Justin Hayward after receiving a set of satin bedsheets as a gift, this is one of The Moody Blues' most recognizable hits. Initially ignored upon its release due to its length, the single eventually peaked at #2 on the pop chart.

- April 25, 2009: Mountain:Theme For An Imaginary Western nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- This is probably one of my favorite tracks from Climbing! after "Mississippi Queen." Mountain takes the Jack Bruce song and adds their own unique hard rock sound to it.

- April 24, 2009: Hollywood Undead:Black Dahlia nominated by Joesmo2008.
- This song by Hollywood Undead is another good song from their album Swan Songs. It has a great meaning for people who feel like they have been betrayed by their lover or someone close to them. Great melody to this song as well as tone and lyrics.

- April 23, 2009: Mötley Crüe:Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) nominated by ROFLer.
- One of Mötley Crüe's most beautiful songs. A far cry from their hard rock style. But it seemed to work for them cause' it's a top 40 hit! A great rock ballad.

- April 22, 2009: Megadeth:Washington Is Next! nominated by soad.
- This is the best song off the album United Abominations it has amazing riffs, an awesome solo and unbelievable vocals. This song can be immediately compared to "Holy Wars" the best song off of Rust In Peace, and probably one of Megadeth's best. That and "Hangar 18".

- April 21, 2009: Blink-182:Not Now nominated by 69.109.219.123.
- On Febuary 8th, 2009, Blink-182 announced their reunion on the 51st Grammy Awards. "Not Now" was their last single before going on an "indefinite hiatus" for four long years. This song was about death, but to fans meant the death of Blink-182. Here's to the revival!

- April 20, 2009: The Spencer Davis Group:Gimme Some Lovin' nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- Featuring one of the most recognizable bass riffs in pop music, this was one of the SDG's biggest hits, reaching #2 in the UK and #7 in the US. A true classic, it was ranked #244 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest songs of all time. There's no doubt in my mind it belongs on that list.

- April 19, 2009: Traffic:The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- More cool jazz than progressive rock, this is one of my favorite Traffic songs. It's just a comfortable, laid back jam; it may run about eleven minutes, but every minute is worth it.

- April 18, 2009: Traffic:Dear Mr. Fantasy nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- Traffic's ode to the rock and roll lifestyle certainly made an impact upon the music world when the album Mr. Fantasy was released. The lyrics are more or less the same stanza repeated three times, but it's the band's musical interplay that makes it a masterpiece.

- April 16, 2009: Death Cab For Cutie:I Will Follow You Into The Dark nominated by Redxx.
- A very beautiful, moving and comforting song, whatever your personal belief system may be, from DCFC's 2005 album Plans. I also find it interesting how the song was recorded. While in the studio, tracking the vocals for a different song for the album, technical issues arose. Producer (and guitarist) Chris Walla told frontman Ben Gibbard to take a break while these were being resolved. Gibbard picked up his guitar and started playing "I Will Follow You into the Dark". Gibbard's playing was still going through the microphone.Walla was so impressed by the sound that he suggested they do a quick tracking of the performance. It was this mono recording that appears on the album, with only minor editing.

- April 15, 2009: Rainbow:Catch The Rainbow nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- One of Rainbow's quieter numbers, it demonstrates Ronnie James Dio's amazing vocal range. There's nothing that stands out more than anything else, but it's a rich six and a half minutes of music.

- April 14, 2009: Metallica:Welcome Home (Sanitarium) nominated by BLMJX.
- Off of one of the band's best albums, Master Of Puppets, this song is amazing. It shows the band's capability, starting light and getting progressively heavier. A great representative of the thrash metal genre.

- April 12, 2009: Tenth Avenue North:By Your Side nominated by Alice2.
- This is a beautiful song and a reminder that Jesus is always with us. The lyrics are powerful and encouraging, but there isn't a line in the song that doesn't hit home for somebody, somewhere. The first time I heard it, I simply thought it was pretty. The second time I heard it, I listened hard to the lyrics and realized they were singing about me. And I'm not the only person this song describes.

- April 11, 2009: J.J. Cale:Cocaine nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- Frequently overshadowed by Eric Clapton's more famous cover version, this remains one of J.J. Cale's most popular hits. It's a bit more boogie-woogie than Clapton's version, but that's what makes it enjoyable.

- This is a good song to honor the late Layne Staley. This could be just a small honor for him by having the Song of the Day. Even though he has achieved so much more, I still think that it would be nice to honor him in this way.

- April 09, 2009: Eminem:Like Toy Soldiers nominated by Rapper'sdelight112.
- Eminem left the rap scene with his song "When I'm Gone" and his Greatest Hits album Curtain Call. It's been announced that he will be releasing his first music video in about four years called "We Made You" on April 7. So to prepare for this song, I think "Like Toy Soldiers" should be the song of the day just so people remember why he is one of the best rappers ever.

- April 08, 2009: Eagles:Hotel California nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- One of the Eagles' four #1 singles, this is probably their most recognizable song. It deservedly won the 1978 Grammy Award for Record of the Year, and it remains a staple of classic rock radio.

- I'm not a big hip-hop fan, but I really like this take on the Aerosmith classic. Aerosmith really only contributes to the "Walk This Way" chorus, but Run-D.M.C. takes the song and really turns it on its head.

- April 06, 2009: Dropkick Murphys:Tessie nominated by Cubs Fan2007.
- Recognizable to baseball fans as the official Boston Red Sox anthem, it's one of two Dropkick Murphys songs I'm really beginning to get into. It's not as punk-sounding as "I'm Shipping Up to Boston", but that's kind of why I like it.
