New server just for LyricWiki 17:56, 8 November 2006 (EST)

LyricWiki is on a new server finally! The traffic we were getting couldn't be supported by the shared server we were on, so we got a dedicated server and everything's up and running again now. For the curious: the server we're on has two 3gig Pentium 4 processors and 1gig of RAM, so it should be able to handle the site quite well and continue to do so as traffic grows even more. Thanks for your patience over the last couple of weeks when the old server was struggling. We're glad you stayed around!

Talks with publishers 20:08, 25 August 2006 (PDT)

One of the most common concerns that is brought up regarding LyricWiki is its legality relating to copyright infringement. Some people are afraid to contribute to a wiki when they think there is a strong chance that it will be sued into oblivion. Well, we'd rather exist and be broke than not exist at all, so we have been talking with publishers about licensing. Today we got through and discussed licensing with a major publisher using a model that won't make us bankrupt and will bring us closer and closer to legality. The general feeling we're getting from music publishers is that they want to work with us and figure something out because there are so many sites that don't pay licenses and they want to create an environment that encourages the use of royalties. While this does not mean that we are immune to lawsuits yet, the fact that we are dealing with publishers will make publishers more likely to just contact us and work out some mutual agreement than to try to sue us. XMLyrics Released 17:18, 17 August 2006 (PDT)

XMLyrics was released in a final version today! It is a .NET application that will automatically retrieve the lyrics for your currently-playing song in Winamp, Windows Media Player, foobar2000, or musikCube. It is the first use of the LyricWiki SOAP webservice and was actually the reason that production of the SOAP was pushed along. It works very well and was tested by LyricWiki (specifically Sean who now uses it personally) since both the SOAP and this program were developed simultaneously. It comes with support for French and English and is free of charge. You can visit the site to learn more or just download it directly

New Announcements System 14:07, 14 August 2006 (PDT)

This page will keep hold announcements on what is new with LyricWiki. It is basically an in-depth version of the LyricWiki:News which is an archive of the Current events page which is a rolling list of what is going on. To put it another way:

• LyricWiki:Current events - Rolling list of current events (about a month's worth).
• LyricWiki:News - Permanent list (where things go after they are current events).
• LyricWiki:In The Press - Mentions of LyricWiki in the press, links to us from famous sites, awards for the site, etc.
• LyricWiki:Announcements - More information - as short articles - about what's going on (protected page).
