[edit] December
- December 25, 2006 to December 31, 2006: Katatonia:The Great Cold Distance (2006) nominated by morcego.
- The Best Produced Album of Katatonia, with a mixed emotions in songs like My Twin where the band sings about the feeling of loosing someone that is considered a soulmate, Deliberation Vision of the World through the eyes of the band Consternation The feeling of depression that a person feels in the common days. The feeling of reaching for someone that seems to get away everytime July. This my favorite album of the band so far, and the interpretations are of my own personnal point of view.
- December 18, 2006 to December 24, 2006: Metallica:Master Of Puppets (1986) nominated by Hamsternator.
- Metallica's third album, and according to many the best they've ever released. The whole album has a theme of control, about things which have power of us, and we have no control of, such as Disposable Heroes (war), Master Of Puppets (addiction) and Leper Messiah (religion). This album also has the best instrumental I've ever heard in Orion. This album's a landmark in heavy metal history, so it's definately worth a listen.
- December 11, 2006 to December 17, 2006: The Pillows:FLCL Fooly Cooly Origional Sound Track 1 (1999) nominated by teknomunk.
- This album is the first of FLCL's three OST (Original Soundtrack). The album contains mostly soft rock songs and instrumental. The song Rever's Edge sounds like elevator music. Ride On Shooting Star, FLCL's ending song, is a strange song with random English words like 'sponge' and 'sniper' stuck in. Another song, Instant Music, intertwines music and instant food. Yet, despite all these apparent flaws, it still sounds good and matches the anime FLCL almost perfectly.
- December 4, 2006 to December 10, 2006: The Corrs:Forgiven Not Forgotten (1996) nominated by Mischko.
- The debut album from The Corrs. It doesn't contain one my favorites (What Can I Do?) but all the others are on this album. A nice CD from back when they still made that nice Irish folk / pop kind of music (though they returned to that after a little excursion to other genres, I have heard). Some songs with lyrics, some instrumentals. From drums to bodhrán, from violin to electric guitar, the songs are a great mix of Irish instruments (and rhythms!) with "modern pop" instruments with great vocals from Andrea.
[edit] November
- November 28, 2006 to December 3, 2006: Keane:Under The Iron Sea (2006) nominated by Jorge Taveras.
- Keane's new album hasn't had much publicity. Many Keane fans such as myself came across it only by chance, why "A Bad Dream" never made the top 100 until this week. Keane, in general, is one of the great bands of our time, a whole different musical style that deserves attention of its own. I myself had no idea who Keane was until a friend wore a Hopes and Fears tour shirt to school. This album got 4.5/5 on iTunes and it is worth listening to.
- November 20, 2006 to November 27, 2006: Meat Loaf:Couldn't Have Said It Better (2003) nominated by Mischko.
- When you see the video clips from this album, you will notice that Meat Loaf has become a little older and has lost a little (that's an understatement) weight. Yet this album has the good ol' Bat Out of Hell-sound. It contains some very long songs like Couldn't Have Said It Better (Myself) that remind very much of Bat Out of Hell, but also some beautiful ballads like Man of Steel and Forever Young and some up-tempo songs (read: pure rock) such as Love You Out loud. I think my favorite songs from this album are the title song and Did I Say That?, but the entire album is absolutely worth listening to.
- November 13, 2006 to November 19, 2006: Pink Floyd:The Dark Side Of The Moon (1973) nominated by Sean Colombo.
- My personal favorite, and the 3rd best-selling album of all time. It tells a story in which every track blends smoothly into the next. It mysteriously syncs up with Wizard of Oz to produce the Dark Side of the Rainbow. It's replay value is so high that it's still popular more than 30 years after its release and during its hayday stayed on the Billboard Top 200 for 741 weeks... longer than any other album in history.
[edit] September
- September 25, 2006 to November 12, 2006: 梶浦由記 (Yuki Kajiura):Fiction (2003) nominated by teknomunk.
- This album is from the only artist that I have liked every single song that she has worked on. So, although I neither have this album, nor have I heard every song on it, I already know that it is an excellent album. It also contains three songs from the anime series .hack//SIGN. Key of the Twilight is an upbeat song with excellent lyrics and just makes you want to go off on a quest. Fake Wings has a soothing melody and likewise has well written lyrics. Open Your Heart has two versions, only one of which is on this album. There are very few lyrics to this song, but it still is a pleasure to listen to.
