This help page discusses songs that have been released in more than one language. If you would like to translate a song, please see Help:Translations instead. |
General Information
- Songs should be provided in their original language and script.
- Songs released in multiple languages should have separate pages for each release and should be linked to each other.
Article Titles
- As with all song pages, the pagename should be "Artist:Song Title". Example: Nena:99 Luftballons and Nena:99 Red Balloons.
- If two versions of a song have the same title, a disambiguating phrase needs to be added in parentheses to the version which is not in the artist's native or preferred language. Example: ABBA:Waterloo and ABBA:Waterloo (German Version).
Helper Templates
- The {{MultipleLanguages}} template was created to allow for easier navigation between the different language releases of a song. For this to be effective, the template needs to be added to each release of the song. The template should be placed on each song page directly above the
<lyrics>tag, or above the {{TranslatedSong}} template if the latter is also used on the page. - The different language versions should be listed in the same order within the template on all pages on which it is used.
Example:
{{MultipleLanguages
|artist=David Bowie
|"Heroes"/en
|Helden/de
|Héros/fr
|"Heroes"/"Helden"/English-German}}
This produces:
| This song has been released in several languages: English: ""Heroes"", Deutsch: "Helden", Français: "Héros", English-German: ""Heroes"/"Helden"" |
- The artist parameter is optional and usually only necessary if the song title contains a colon ":".
- See here for a list of language codes.
