Here are some facts about Daniel Boone.
There were lots of myths a d legend’s when Daniel Boone was still alive. Like, he did not wear a coonskin hat. He though that kind of headwear was uncivilized. So he had a beverskin hat. Lewis correctly shows Boone with a beaver hat, not a coonskin cap. The myth started when an actor who had helped Lewis sell the engravings was hired for a minstrel show called "The Hunters of Kentucky." Unable to find a beaver hat, he substituted a coonskin cap. Things that were also myth include things in his nephew’s poem. It says that he is part of God’s great plan for America. It also says that he hated Indians. And it said that he was an ideal Christian. All of these things are not true. Boone settled Kentucky and founded one of the first English-speaking settlements west of the Appalachians. Boone was a militia officer fighting in the Revolutionary War. Boone was captured by Indians and be friended them. He defended land settlements in court battles and served in elected positions. The stories about him created legend’s about western heroism but fact and fiction were blended too much.
